Witcher 3 dev denies ‘year of crunch’ claims

Earlier this week, an anonymous NeoGAF user claiming to be close to the Witcher 3 project, went off on a small rant, stating that CD Projekt Red is not some “magical dev studio with only the best interests of the games in mind”. He then went on to claim that the studio's PR team has created an “overblown vision of a game that doesn't exist while the team has been in crazy crunch time for over a year now.”

Once the anonymous user's legitimacy was questioned, a NeoGAF admin supposedly got in touch and confirmed that he was somehow close to The Witcher 3's development. As a result, CD Projekt Red has been forced to respond to these rumors claiming that the “bullsh*tting with The Witcher III started from day one.”

The studio's communications executive, Michal Platkow-Gilewski, issued a statement to Gamespot: “In principle, we don't comment on rumors, especially when someone anonymous says that it's ‘his/her word against CDP PR'.”

“PR aside, if you have any doubts about Wild Hunt's quality, have a look at the 35-minute gameplay video we published some time ago, or check out gamers' reactions to our public previews at Gamescom, San Diego Comic Con and E3 – it's all public and available on the studio's YouTube channel – and decide for yourself.”

For those of you who aren't aware, ‘crunching' is a common development term for working unreasonably long hours in order to meet deadlines. The Witcher 3 was originally set to release this month but was delayed until February.

KitGuru Says: I wouldn't necessarily trust this anonymous source since we don't know anything about his history with the studio. From what we've seen so far, The Witcher 3 looks like its shaping up to be good game. What do  you guys think of the source's claims? Do you think there's any truth to it? Are you excited for The Witcher 3?

Sorry, heard that before many times. Look at Watch_Dogs and how that turned out compared to what they showed. It’s a shame this has happened, but we really can’t trust a game and the devs until it’s actual out in the world.

  2. i completely trust them..
they never disappointed, nor will they now…
witcher 1 and 2 where fantastic, everything they promised, and so will the Wild Hunt

  3. True but that is Ubisoft and much like EA and, well, most of the big publishers and studios, they lie about their products to sell them better. On the other hand we have CDPR which don’t have that kind of reputation. Besides, it is possible that they are crunching like mad but on the other hand they are a hardworking bunch working against industry staples – otherwise games like The Witcher 2 or 3 would not exist.

  4. I’m sure that CDPR will not screw up like Ubisoft or EA does. Even if Witcher 3 won’t be the perfect game, I’m 100% sure that it will be at least as good as the first 2 games, and it will indeed contain all the features advertised untill this day.
As a conclusion, I will definitely add Witcher 3 to my games collection, regardless of what bullcr@p certain people throw at CDPR.

  5. The only reason that there was that shit going on with Watch Dogs is because the company had a deal with console guys (to make consoles look like they are actualy next gen by downgrading pc graphics). Since withcer 3 is not going to be released on consoles (since it prolly wouldnt even be 30fps) its only on pc, and theres no reason them to limit the performance. The only thing that can be is that they have beast pc and if u dont have one, ur going to get lesser experience.

  6. Can we all just agree to let neogaf die? Gamespot gets a reply from the dev, neogaf gets angry ranting rumors.

    die neogaf die

  7. Fucking Neofag

  8. watch_dogs didn’t have that kind of gameplay demo to begin with. I’m guessing people have actually played witcher 3 on actual consoles when it was shown. 35 minutes is also massively more than watch_dogs showed.

  9. witcher 3 is most definitely coming on consoles…

the gameplay demos they have shown are mostly ~30fps console demos I think. Unlike watchdogs that was using a super PC or something of the sort. I’m expecting PC to be better than what they’ve been showing to us so far.

  10. weirdkindofawesome

Sorry to disappoint but if you’d read the CD PR history you would know that the studio almost went bankrupt due to a console push of Witcher 2. They aren’t focusing on the console releases with all their big limitations (fps/aesthetics and so on..).

  11. still going to be on ps4 and xbox1

  12. I say it’s utter nonsense. Delays happen, especially when you’e trying to create a quality game and put it out with a little end-user mess as possible. Good on CDP to quash this rot. I’m rather looking forward to The Wild Hunt. If it is pushed back, then so be it. The only issue I had with Assassins of Kings was that it was so short. But beyond that, both of the first games in the trilogy were superb. 🙂

  13. Domms An Fear Uasal

Some people have way too much time on their hands, They need to go out and get a job and stop all this needless BS on the net, Sad wankers.

  14. I ignore people that dont have proof…

  15. I’m truly looking forward to this game as it seems like the only true PC Game for the last two years. Now if I could only get around to playing The Witcher 2, soon still on Far Cry 3 that I’m loading up right after this post slow and steady like the turtle would say.
