OnePlus reveals how many smartphones it has sold

The OnePlus One smartphone has been available for a while now through a pre-order invite system, meaning that they aren't readily available for anyone to just buy. However, OnePlus has finally revealed just how many of its limited Android handsets it has managed to shift.

It has been a long wait for many as the device is actually highly sought after but the company is finally starting to meet demand. Speaking with Forbes, OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei, said that the company has now sold 500,000 devices and aims to double that by 2015.

The company is slowly opening the floodgates for more buyers but it argues that in order to keep the price point low, it needs to ensure that it has no excess inventory laying around. OnePlus did manage to rack up tens of thousands of sales by opening up a pre-order window to the public, which allowed anyone to get in-line for a device for a brief time-period and the company will be holding another public pre-order window on the 17th of November for those who don't have an invite.

For those of you who don't know what all of the hype is about, the OnePlus One is branded as ‘the flagship killer', selling for just £229 in the UK for a 16Gb model and £269 for a 64Gb model. It utilizes a Snapdragon 801 quad core CPU, 3GB of RAM, a 5.5 Inch 1080p display, a 3100 mAh battery and a 13 megapixel camera. It also runs a close to stock version of Android via the Cyonogen mod.

KitGuru Says: If I was in the market for an Android device I would probably hold out for the OnePlus One, especially since Google seems to have shifted from its usual bang for buck strategy with the Nexus 6. Do any of you guys own a OnePlus One? Would you recommend it?

  1. I was able to order one during the first “open window”. Won’t be here for another few weeks.

  3. I managed to obtain this legendary device, if you can hold out for one you will not be disappointed! I paid £279 with express delivery, further more the community support for this is awesome (OnePlus forums and over at XDA) If you are a techy and you buy anything else you need to have a serious word with yourself 🙂

  5. I have (the) one since August… It’s a great smartphone for the price, nothing from the major brands comes near in terms of price/perfomance and price/build quality. The only major flaw is the customer support :-/ Overall is a great device at an amazing price. But… as soon as Google allows me I will sell the One and buy a Nexus 6. :-p

  9. I agree that OnePlus is emulating the Nexus phone very closely as if by intent. It is certainly getting market traction once it can shift more units quickly as the competition is heating up again with Android L on the near horizon. I would think moving 1M units for 2015 is a lowball target as moving 5M should really be a target considering each of the smaller factories in China can churn out 100K units per month. They just need 4-5 factories working to get that volume. Moving it at the price is not at issue as the specs are top-notched and it quality is decent. Having Cyanogen is a big plus for this phone!.

  11. WARNING: CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS A JOKE – I had to open a PayPal dispute – took 2 months to get a refund for a faulty phone! And my second OnePlus still has a yellow screen issue (google it, its a pretty severe problem on a lot of OnePlus One’s). Other than that its a perfect phone. Shame those two things let it down.
