Microsoft officially announced its next operating system, Windows 10, a couple of weeks ago and promptly released the technical preview, allowing the public to help Microsoft test its OS before release next year. The company has now revealed that it has managed to attract 1 million people with its technical preview through the Windows Insider Program.
Microsoft's Chief of Windows, Joe Belfiore, has said “That equates to a lot of people using the Windows 10 Technical Preview and sending us feedback”, obviously. The software maker has received more than 200,000 bits of early feedback since launch, with top requests including options to remove the new search and task view buttons as well as requests for a start menu animation or transition.
According to the Windows Chief, 64 per cent of all Windows 10 technical preview installs are on actual PCs rather than virtual machines, which makes Microsoft “confident that a lot of the feedback is based on ‘medium-term' use and not just a few minutes of experimentation.”
68 per cent of all Windows 10 users are launching more than seven apps per day and 25 per cent of all users are launching more than 26 apps per day, this makes it clear that users are actively using the OS on machines rather than just experimenting for an hour or so.
Microsoft has yet to announce pricing or a release date for Windows 10 but more is expected to be revealed at the annual developers conference at the end of April next year, which is around the same time the technical preview expires.

It’s great! I put it on my old laptop that was previously running Vista. I use it for general web browsing, e-mails, and teaching myself to program in Java. I can’t test any games unfortunately because the laptop doesn’t have sufficient hardware to run them, even if the software is up to scratch 🙁
Windows 10 should be completely regardless FREE of what platform you have. Poor PC users have to pay for everything after spending a lot of money on pc components such as graphic card etc.. games and some application software. I have heard they have invest alot on such these things…..
It should be free for windows 8 and 8.1 users for all the bs they have had to put up with especially since service pack looks like it aint happening now it will be windows 10 features. Everyone else running older operating systems should pay though, Microsoft is a company not a charity and still needs to turn a profit!
Still it doesn’t make sense that you have pay to upgrade OS then you also have to pay for subscription fee such as Microsoft Office etc… Thanks God i’m using pirated windows 8.1. Haha lol…
They already announced that win 10 will be free for people with a win 8 or 8.1 license. I think that it’s a rational and quite acceptable solution.
you are aware that the technical preview is just that, a preview? Most programs won’t function properly.
Are you aware that he specified that it was the hardware that couldn’t handle it and not the software? A vista laptop is a damn old laptop.
Well every program that I have tested, does work properly 🙂
That is like saying the windmill is broken when there is no wind. You cannot be certain until the software works.
Most of the programs I tested worked fine as well, however, there were a few that works but not as intended.
so far no problems, as for transfers from one computer running windows 8.1 to this PC running TP of windows 10 no problems in fact I am seeing more speed in transfer as well as better response times when testing on the windows 10 TP computer. I do have problems with antivirus and smart-speed LAN functions but those are just hiccups and eventually run fine after loading.
Just stay away from that crap and use Ubuntu which is far superior yet not behaving with unpreditability whenever it encounters something strange like a malware or virus ….
I tested it on 2 machines and quickly ditched it 2 days later. Another lot of crap, if you asked me. Ubuntu is it for me.
Wow Windows 10 is a crap? Hmm… i did’t know how to use Ubuntu…
