While much of the world was dressing up in scary outfits for Halloween this weekend, some of us were stepping into a digital horror movie, with a snarling beast and four wily humans, hoping to take it down. Yes, this weekend was the Evolve Big Alpha and we asked you to join us throughout it for some monster hunting action, with a prize up for grabs for the first person to slay us. Oh boy did that put a bounty on our heads.
Myself and Matt were hounded by dedicated hunters and monsters alike, all of whom braved the early network and matchmaking issues with the game to try and bring the fight to us. Many of you succeeded and we were both on the end of multiple gloating and celebratory cheers. But of course only one of you could win that copy of Evolve, for being the first to take us down.
Matt tries to beat a hasty retreat, but there's nowhere to run
In the end, it was David “R3v!Val” Egy, with the most LEET name of the lot and a quick trigger finger. He managed to slay Matt early on Saturday morning. Congratulations, you'll be getting a pre-order of the full game shortly.
And seconds later he bites the dust
David's strategy for going after Matt was noteworthy. Due to the way the big alpha was set up, those who joined games together or created a party weren't allowed to play on opposite teams. This stumped a few of you who wanted to kill us, but due to befrieinding us through Steam, found that when you did get in the same game with us and it actually worked, team killing wasn't an option.
Where Mr Egy got smart, was waiting until the game had already started before joining and he just happened to luck out and grab himself the Assault class, while poor Matt was under heavy fire as the monster. He didn't last too long.

KitGuru Says: Thanks to everyone for taking the time to hunt with and against us this weekend. It was a lot of fun. The alpha looks to have been extended for a couple of days too, so maybe we'll be able to get a few more rounds in just for fun.
What I remembered the most of this Alpha is that the company doesn’t give a shit about PC players. Definitely not buying this any time soon.
hows so? besides the match making issue and excessive loads time (which are worse on consoles) I had a blast with the game. not 1 single crash and the controls worked great. no fps drops below 60 either though could be due to my new gtx 970
Same here, the loading times were rather excessive, not on the time on particular, but the amount of loading screens the game goes through.
Other than that, and the fact that they fixed matchmaking fairly soon, the game servers never crashed, i had pretty much zero delay (which was a breeze considering my location), the game went smoothly. I just hope they keep the game alive, as it may get boring soon unless you’re playing in a relatively high skilled game.
I waited two hours and a half in a lobby for them to fix the issue. they didn’t. This isn’t acceptable, they should at least check that the game works before alpha. Alpha isnt meant to be broken, its supposed to be missing a lot of features but basically showing off the core basics and asking players to break the game, not giving an actually broken game at the start. I may be a bit harsh, but first impressions count a lot. and let’s face it, these guys were obviously giving keys to anyone who asked. This was really more like an open beta weekend than an alpha.

“though could be due to my new gtx 970” <.< … you don't say …

ohh so it didnt work for you? well thats 1 person and you know id rather have all these issues fixed before the game comes out so alphas even open beta weekends like you say are good if they fix the issues. and yes they did patch it several times and while it may not have worked for you it has worked very well for 99% of the other people. I for one am very happy with their approach so far and as a bonus most companies would announce a season pass or day 1 dlc for a game this big but they havent announced a single piece of dlc which is great
…for the moment lol.
