A hoverboard project has hit Kickstarter

Hoverboards finally exist and you can actually own one thanks to a new Kickstarter campaign offering up their current working model. It's pricey though, a pre-built model will set you back $10,000 while a ‘DIY kit' will only cost $299. The campaign currently has 53 days left to go and has managed to raise over $207,000 of its $250,000 goal from 871 backers.

The board itself looks a bit like the one found in Back to the Future 2, a very common comparison you'll see thrown around the Internet. There are videos available showing the board hovering in the air and supporting full body weight, although there is a downside, the propellers sound absolutely awful, the concept is awesome and the fact that its working is even better but I doubt many will want to put up with the noise for long. Obviously, the hoverboard is still in the very early stages so some early flaws, such as the noise, are to be expected. In the years to come, these things will be ironed out, hopefully one day we will have hoverboards that operate much quieter.

This is what Hendo hopes to achieve in the future, a board offering 1 inch of ride height, a sleeker form factor and full control over movement alongside some safety measurements should anything go wrong.

All of the pre-built Hendo hoverboards are gone now so if you had $10,000 lying around, you'll have to spend it on something else. However, there are plenty of DIY kits left if you want to try out the early technology. You can check out the Kickstarter page, HERE.
