Assassin’s Creed Unity launch bugs bring stocks down

Ubisoft's stock is currently down by 9.12 per cent to $3.29 thanks to Assassin's Creed Unity's buggy launch, in-fact the game is so glitchy that you can already find compilation videos on YouTube. It's not just PC users having problems either, review outlets noted heavy performance issues on both the PS4 and Xbox One.

Ubisoft's stock has plummeted today in Europe as a result. Assassin's Creed is a pretty important franchise to the publisher so the fact that the reviews are fairly poor is bound to hurt investor confidence. Polygon's own review noted that “moment-to-moment performance varies between acceptable and abysmal”.  Additionally, Eurogamer‘s review noted that “Unity suffers from some glaring performance issues, particularly on PlayStation 4, with frame-rates regularly taking a tumble”.

Stock does tend to decline and rise back up fairly regularly so it is possible that despite the title's poor launch, stock could break even once again tomorrow. However, this ordeal does raise the question, would Ubisoft have been better off delaying Assassin's Creed Unity? Does the series really have to be a yearly release? [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PkzIGSyjLQ'] Via: Yahoo. Fair warning, the video does have a fairly annoying soundtrack.

It's a little early to tell if Assassin's Creed Unity's troubled launch will have a lasting effect on Ubisoft's stock but it will be interesting to find out.

KitGuru Says: Review copies of the latest AC game came with a 12 hour post-launch embargo, restricting reviews from going up until well after the game had been available to consumers. This certainly shows a lack of confidence in the product and makes it seem like Ubisoft was actually aware of the game's state but refused to delay it. Do you guys think this will hurt Ubisoft's reputation with Investors? Do you think Assassin's Creed should continue being a yearly franchise?

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

  1. cant believe they release that monstrosity. I mean I am sure there was gonna be some glitches but this many is ridiculous, its like if it was an Alpha version.

  2. i would love to think that this along with all the other crap they have pulled recently will make a difference but im sure some how it was record sale of some type in which case why wouldn’t they do it again…

i mean christ EA is starting to good actually rather good….

  3. I’ve had review copies of every single Assassin’s Creed title, usually 4-5 days before release. For unity… nothing, now I’m not surprised.

I am more surprised that reviews didn’t deliberately break the embargo to highlight such horrific flaws in the product.

  4. What happens if you break a review embargo?

  5. Damn, it’s pre-alpha in glitch terms. None of the alphas I’ve played have had this many game breaking glitches. Stability should come before feature set, so most alphas are limited in feature sets but *way* more stable than this.

  6. nothing, it’s not a legal requirement to have review copies, an embargo is the publisher stipulates the video you create has certain rules you must adhere to as a reviewer, if you don’t adhere to them as a reviewer then you get blacklisted from the publisher, which puts you at a disadvantage. here’s totalbiscuit’s take on the big bad embargo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gavcvi19q1g

  7. Is anyone seriously surprised by this after the 12 hour post-launch embargo? That’s such an asshole move that a company would do only if they know there will be serious problems with the game.

  8. While I am sorry for those who payed for it, I am happy to see NvUbisoft having troubles.

  9. So when you say ‘nothing’ you mean that a reviewer will be blacklisted by the publisher? That would mean, presumably, that they wouldn’t get advance copies? Surely that’s quite significant?

  10. Yes so apparently by ‘nothing’ that actually means ‘everything’ as you would become a pariah in the gaming review world with no access to triple A titles or perhaps even indie startup titles. I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you mean nothing -legally- but as far as career advancement? Utter destruction. Got it.

  11. good gay Ubisoft, helping EA to a better image 😛

  12. Most day-1 buyers probably doesn’t car for those technical issues.
Nowadays, most games are bound to meet technical issues and several bugs before getting their 1st patch pressure to release game before major events and day-1 buyers = QA).
That’s the main reason why, even for titles I will buy whatever the reviews, I wait a ouples of months to be sure I will be able to enjoy it to its fullest.
And when I’m not sure I will buy it, I wait for reviews and buyers’ feedback

“The Video is not available in your country”.

My bad for moving to Japan then.

  14. Let me see how console fanboys that says “FPS doesn’t matter” will play the game with 20FPS. And Ubisoft are wrecking the optimization more and more with every new game. I suppose we will need Haswell-E and quad SLI for the next Assassin’s creed.
