The New Zealand government has been trying to get rid of Kim Dotcom for many years at this point. Since the Megaupload and Internet MANA founder was arrested during a raid on his home in January 2012, it's been trying to extradite him to the US for charges on money laundering and conspiracy to commit copyright infringement. However, it's now discovered that Dotcom has an undeclared dangerous driving conviction that dates from before his application for New Zealand residency, which could give it reason to deport him.
Dotcom did declare both his hacking conviction from the mid 90s, as well as the one for insider trading from 2001. The only real difference with the dangerous driving conviction was that it took place in New Zealand itself, with Dotcom being caught doing 90 miles per hour in a 30 in Albany. The reason it may not have emerged until now however, could be because the charge was registered under Dotcom's birth name, Kim Schmitz, rather than his adopted (and legally changed) name.
While now more politically orientated, Dotcom's younger years were spent living a much more playboy lifestyle
The immigration arm of the NZ government has said that it will investigate the findings, unearthed by the NZ Herald, but did admit that it would take months too look into.
There is some hint that the driving conviction may have been known about by the authorities during Kim Dotcom's application for residency, as there were already concerns over other convictions. However the conspiracy/rumour goes, that Prime Minster John Key pushed through Dotcom's application, in order for the government to eventually arrest him and extradite him to the US. While Mr Key and his fellow MPs deny this, the FBI has previously stated that political pressure was used to push through Dotcom's application.
It's not clear what effect this conviction will have, but Dotcom's extradition trial looks set to take place early 2015, so it may not matter either way.

Honestly I think the guy should be locked away for at least a decade. Clearly he’s into shady dealings as his track record is horrific and I really, really doubt he’s now living the good life 100% legitimately.

Lol, a bit of 90’s hacking and some dangerous driving offenses. If that’s your definition of ‘horrific’ you need to experience the world a little more; and more than a decade in jail for that? Wow.
So he’s “into shady dealings” and “should be locked away for at least a decade”, while the politicians, both in NZ and the US, who used public funds and bending/breaking of international law to harass a private citizen go free and get to celebrate their “victory”?
If I told you I was in favour of execution and labour camps, would that give you perspective on 10 years in my eyes being the right amount of time to serve?

Labour camps are a great idea, execution should only be saved for very special cases, such as mass murder or repeat rape crimes.

Because criminals should be seen as a potential resource, not a social and economic burden. Using labour camps allows the transformation of criminals from an expenditure to an income.

That’s an idiotic outlook, the kind that made Prison Privatization happen and the kind that resulted in 5 grams of weed being a minimum 5 year offense in some states and legal in others.The kind that means a kid with a gram of cocaine (a rich mans drug) gets months and a kid with a gram of crack (a poor mans drug) gets double digit years.
Giving both governments and businesses an incentive to put more people in jail never ends well. Look at some of the rehabilitative countries of the world, what are their re-offend rates like?
Prisons punish people that do wrong things, but the moral counter gets screwed up if they also reward some of those that did not do wrong.
What? If you can logically link what I said to what you’ve said, I’ll be amazed. Prisons don’t create laws of sentences, something you seem to be confused about. I’m saying once someone is in a prison, they then should be seen as a state asset rather than a burden. Why can’t profit and rehabilitation work hand in hand? The Laws and Sentences create the jail time. The Senate creates laws and sentences. The Senators create the Senate. The funding (for a campaign) creates the Senators. The corporations create the funding. The corporations, thus can directly control the laws and sentences by manipulating the requirements they set for senators in order for them to receive their lobby funding. they offer things like bounties (every senator that votes for X bill that we have paid to have proposed will receive X campaign contributions) It’s like being able to directly influence how many people stay at your hotel, only the overheads for looking after them once they get there are massively lowered.
Thus, we already have a situation in which the private prisons are rewarded for their actions by mining the ‘imprisoned humans’ resource, and naturally, they want more people in jail for longer (equivalent to expanding their mines = growth = a businesses modus operandi), hence the massive overcrowding and the equally massive prison industry, yet next to no rehabilitation. That’s what happened when we started rewarding corporations for punishing people, now what if we do that to everyone.
On another note, humans are naturally selfish. You think someone won’t put another man in jail for his own personal gain, or double the years on a new convict for a few thousand dollars, then you don’t know humanity at it’s present state.
