Each week, the Epic Games Store offers a game or two for free to all those with an EGS account. Right now, players can get their hands on the Resident Evil 4-inspired and Shinji Mikami-directed ‘The Evil Within’ – with its sequel being offered for free next week.
The Evil Within is a 3rd person survival horror experience which is heavily inspired by the classic Resident Evil 4. That’s because The Evil Within was created and Directed by Shinji Mikami – who is the creator of the Resident Evil franchise and also directed the 4th entry back in 2005.
After leaving Capcom, Mikami went on to create Tango Gameworks – a studio under the umbrella of Bethesda (and so is now under Microsoft also). Though not as highly regarded as RE4, The Evil Within manages to elicit many of the same vibes, providing a balanced sense of dread and action.
Alongside The Evil Within, Eternal Threads is also currently available to add to your library for free. This single-player, first-person story-driven puzzle game “follows the six main characters through multiple decisions across multiple timelines and you can experience these in any way you choose.”
Both The Evil Within and Eternal threads are available to add to your library right now, and will remain so until the 26th of October at which point they will be replaced by The Evil Within 2 and Tandem: a Tale of Shadows.
