Cooler Master to improve dust filter design following KitGuru’s QUBE 500 review

Back in September, we reviewed the Cooler Master QUBE 500, a flatpack PC case that you build from scratch. It was a concept we could get behind, especially for someone who enjoys building and modding PCs. However, our airflow testing brought up some concerns. Now, Cooler Master has responded to our findings and will be making changes to the case design to improve airflow.

The core of the issue came down to the dust filters Cooler Master shipped with the QUBE 500 Flatpack. Our expert case reviewer, James Dawson, measured the perforations at less than 1mm diameter, which posed restrictions on airflow. In our tests, we observed a 9°C improvement in CPU temperatures with the dust filters removed with a Cooler Master MasterLiquid 240 Atmos AIO cooler.

We passed over details of our testing to Cooler Master, including the full system spec. They were able to reproduce the issue to a certain extent, and thanks to the KitGuru review, have now decided to implement changes in future dust filter designs to better prioritise airflow – resulting in a better product for consumers.

Cooler Master's full statement on the matter can be found below:

“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your recent testing of the QUBE 500 Flatpack and for sharing your valuable feedback. We place immense value on the insights and experiences of our media partners, and we sincerely appreciate your dedication to our products.

Your feedback has played a pivotal role in our commitment to continuous improvement, and we have taken your input very seriously. Following a thorough internal testing process and a comprehensive review of your observations, although we weren’t able to reproduce the amount of difference you were experiencing, we still saw a small improvement in thermals, within a few degrees. We believe in continuously improving our products in any way possible, so we are pleased to inform you that we have decided to implement changes in the future filter design to maximize this detail for all users of Cooler Master Products.

We are excited to share that we plan to incorporate the optimized filter design in the future iterations of the QUBE 500 Flatpack. This decision is a testament to our dedication to providing you with products that meet and exceed your expectations.

At Cooler Master, our mission is to offer high-quality solutions that not only cater to your needs but also anticipate them. We understand the importance of listening to our customer and partners, and your valuable input is a clear reflection of our customer-centric approach.”

Future versions of the QUBE 500 Flatpack will ship with airflow-optimised dust filters and as Cooler Master confirmed in its statement, it will be focusing on this for filter designs for other products as well to improve the experience for all customers.
