The next Civilisation is very different

CIV games are pretty self explanatory when you've played at least one of them before. You have your cities, your armies, your workers and you make your way through the tech tree, warring on the battlefield, culturally, religiously and try to take as much territory as possible. That's, not exactly what's going on in the first trailers for the next iteration of the series, Civilisation Online.

It has third person combat and city building and real time multiplayer it looks like? I'm not entirely sure. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0dM5JSehqE']

This is an MMO however, which would explain some of the differences, but when you consider the number of genres of gameplay going on there, the card based progression and the cutesy graphics, it's definitely a big departure from the Beyond Earth series' entry. Maybe that's a good thing too, considering how unenthused most people seem to be about it.

Currently being put together by Korean developeer XLGames, Civilisation Online is set to hit beta sometime early next year. It's unclear at this time whether it can expect a Western release. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jqblpto6N3o']

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

  1. I am definitely interested in an MMO adaptation of CIV, but this looks a bit too ‘cartoony’ for my liking 🙁

  2. It’s a big nope from me.
I don’t see this shipping in any sustainable quantity after a few months.

  3. Wtf was that, and how is it civ lol

  4. Err No! Devaluing the Civ brand again! Civ 3 and 4 were the best so far!

  5. Xl games? i would not touch this with a 10 foot p2w pole.

  6. What did I just watch?

This will either be absolutely amazing or hopelessly terrible. I’m betting on the latter but hoping for the former.

  7. It doesn’t LOOK like a Civ game, but I’d be willing to give it a try. I’m not one for getting stuck on a name for a game, they can call it Civilizations in they want, what I see is something completely different.
