The hacking situation keeps getting worse for Sony Pictures as now DVD quality copies of four movies, three of which have yet to hit the cinema, have leaked online. High quality copies of Fury, Annie, Still Alice and Mr. Turner have all become available via torrent sites.
These copies are watermarked, suggesting that they may have been DVD screeners, which are often used for promotional purposes. According to TorrentFreak, Fury, the only movie to have already released at box office, is by far the most popular of the leaked films. A Sony spokesperson didn't confirm the leak but did say that there had been a theft.
“The theft of Sony Pictures Entertainment content is a criminal matter, and we are working closely with law enforcement to address it.”
It is very likely that these leaks have something to do with the hacking group, GOP, which attacked Sony Pictures' internal systems last week. The identity of GOP and the reasoning for the hack hasn't been officially revealed but rumor has it that North Korea is behind the whole thing in an effort to stop the release of ‘The Interview', a Seth Rogen comedy in which the CIA orders the assassination of Kim Jong-Un.
Sources speaking with Recode said that a link between North Korea and the hack are currently being investigated. However, nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

KitGuru Says: Things aren't going too well for Sony and the company is remaining very tight lipped when it comes to details of the investigation. Rumors suggesting that North Korea is behind the attack in order to stop the release of The Interview sound credible but there isn't any evidence to back it up yet. Do you guys think North Korea could be behind the hack? Do you think the movie leak and the hack are connected?
