Mark Zuckerberg discusses future vision for VR

Mark Zuckerberg caused quite a stir last year when Facebook acquired Oculus for $2 billion but since then, the CEO hasn't really offered much insight to his future vision for Virtual Reality. However, at the latest Facebook Q&A meeting, he did give a few words.

According to Zuckerberg, current VR technology is “very very rough” but over the next decade it should evolve rapidly. “I think it’s pretty easy to imagine that in the future we will have something that we can wear. It will look just like normal glasses — it won’t look weird like some of the stuff that exists today.”

“I don’t know if it’s going to be ten years, or 15, or 20 but there will be another platform after computers that becomes the primary computing platform and we’re really excited to build that. We’re working on that with Oculus, who we think are by far the leader in virtual reality at this point, and it’s going to be very exciting to see how that develops.”

It's an exciting time for virtual reality, the consumer version of the Oculus Rift is expected to launch later this year while Razer recently announced a new open source Virtual Reality standard, to allow all companies to benefit and share from advancements in the field.

KitGuru Says: The first consumer grade VR headsets will be hitting people's homes later this year. The Oculus Rift has progressed very quickly since its initial inception so it will be interesting to see where it ends up in five years time. Are any of you guys excited about VR technology? Will you be picking up a Rift when they release this year?
