Nintendo looking to buy free form’ LCD screens from Sharp

Apparently, Nintendo is looking to buy ‘free form' LCD screens from display manufacturer, Sharp. These new free form screens rearrange the circuitry throughout the display, allowing for more unusual shapes, breaking away from the traditional rectangle screens we see these days.

According to The Japan Times, Nintendo could be planning to use the technology to power an upcoming successor to the 3DS, although this seems unlikely to happen so soon since a ‘new' 3DS just launched in Japan with a significant hardware bump.

Alternatively though, Nintendo could use free form LCD displays on its sleep mapping device, which the company announced earlier this year as a part of its new quality of life (QOL) initiative.

Nintendo and Sharp already have a supply relationship as the current 3DS uses a glasses free 3D display, which was made by Sharp. While a full on handheld successor is probably some ways off on Nintendo's road map, it would be cool to see the company make good use of these futuristic looking free form displays.
