Earlier this week it was announced that the Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt has been delayed again as CD Projekt Red found “many details that need to be corrected”. However, the developer has provided a little more context now to Polish financial journalists.
CD Projekt Red board member, Adam Kicinski (translated by Eurogamer) said that “gamers took our decision very well. The market is afraid of badly polished games on next-gen platforms”. It seems that the developer didn't want The Witcher 3 to join the ranks of Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed: Unity and The Master Chief Collection, all big triple A titles, which unfortunately launched broken.
“We want to disarm the opinion that The Witcher 3 doesn't exist. It will be closed by the end of the year in line with the schedule. There's a lot of small errors though, because the game is huge. It's the only reason behind the delay. We didn't assume it will be this big. Only after putting all the pieces together it turned out it's bigger than the two first put together.”
“Let me remind you: it's open and not linear. We are just learning how to play it and we have to catch the little pieces. We know what to do, we just have to do it. We don't want to release the game with bugs that undermine the gameplay.”
When the game does finally land, CD Projekt Red will start churning out little DLC updates, 16 of them- all for free.

KitGuru Says: CD Projekt Red is a little more open and honest with the community than other developers. Given the slew of broken releases we've had recently, the delay seems smart- now the developer just needs to deliver. Are you guys looking forward to The Witcher 3?
Preordered it right after the preorders went live at gog.com. I rather wait a bit more and have a better experience than having the product rushed out
My thoughts exactly. I’m fed up with the rush decisions of UbiSoft and Electronic Arts, and a few others that choose to bypass “quality over quantity.” It’s almost like they don’t understand the importance of word of mouth, and media reports, which will always promote the problems that they carelessly allow to roll out, in what they call: “the finished product.” Long term repeat business should be a goal in the business model, instead of pumping out trash once a year in a new sequel. I have enjoyed CD Projekt Red’s honesty and patience, and have been very pleased with the previous Witcher titles…especially considering the competition it had with other RPG IP’s released around the same times. We’re tired of being treated like morons or lemmings by Publishers that only care about the quick profit, left feeling as if they are calling us “stupid” while they empty our wallets with the initial disc, as well as the DLCs that release – before proper bug fixes should. If more Publishers would work like CD Projekt Red; maybe we wouldn’t continue funding the bad ones… and have the standards of quality increase as a norm. Don’t get me wrong; there are many great IP’s that have a few bad eggs released and its bound to happen at times, but the last few years have been flooded with broken launches and a huge lack of support and optimization… followed by back peddling and excuses, while they offer something free as a fix.
Looking forward to an optimized and polished pre-order finally arriving, and working the way I expect on a gaming rig…whenever it is finally ready. 🙂
