Advanced Micro Devices on Monday promoted Mario Silveira to lead worldwide consumer sales within the company's computing and graphics business unit.
Mario Silveira, who is 40 years old, joined AMD in 2010 and most recently served as head of consumer go-to-market sales for the EMEA region. Mr. Silveira will report to John Byrne, who is the head of AMD’s computing and graphics business unit.
The role of head of consumer sales for EMEA has been assigned to Gabriele Rentocchini, who will now be responsible for overseeing all sales and marketing activities related to the retail and consumer go-to- market segments in the region.
EMEA is a mature region, therefore, the appointment of Mr. Silveira means that AMD considers this region valuable. Many companies nowadays prefer to concentrate on southeast Asia as a way to improve sales. Apparently, AMD believes that it needs to sell its products on established markets as well, which is a good news.

KitGuru Says: Given the recent changes at AMD, it is not surprising that the company is reshuffling its sales team. The main question is whether the new appointment will lead to increased sales.
