It is official, we already learned earlier today that several big cinema chains would not be showing The Interview next week, the New York premier was canceled and now Sony is calling off the movie's launch altogether following yesterday's threats of violence, issued by the group behind the Sony hack.
This decision came after the majority of theater chains pulled out of showing the film on its 25th of December release. In a statement printed by Variety, Sony said: “In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film The Interview, we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release”.
“We respect and understand our partners’ decision and, of course, completely share their paramount interest in the safety of employees and theater-goers.”
The statement continues to say: “Sony Pictures has been the victim of an unprecedented criminal assault against our employees, our customers, and our business. Those who attacked us stole our intellectual property, private emails, and sensitive and proprietary material, and sought to destroy our spirit and our morale – all apparently to thwart the release of a movie they did not like.”

KitGuru Says: Well there you have it, the hackers won and managed to force Sony in to pulling a movie release. This doesn't necessarily mean that the film won't ever come out but you won't be seeing it next week. Do you guys think Sony made the wrong call by giving in to demands?
Bloody touchy hackers, ruining everyone’s Christmas.
I was looking forward to going to see this with my friends, but now.. Nooo, they HAD to give threats of terror…
GoP are basement dweller hackers, not terrorists. They can organise and perform major hacks but that doesn’t mean they are also able to perform acts of terrorism they threaten, they just know that people know they could, not can.
Can Sony at least be cool and “accidentally” leak the movie onto torrent sites?
Say what? So cyber-terrorism is now a thing.
i can see pulling but lets hope not forever im sure they pulled it just to make sure they cant really do what they say but i really think they should of still put it out not that i would go and see it i never go see any movie
