Valve kicks off 2015 with new Steam user record

Valve's new year is off to a good start as the Steam concurrent users record has been topped. A total of 8.46 million users were using Steam a few hours in to the new year, beating out the previous record, which was set all of the way back in June.

The previous record was eight million concurrent users on Valve's platform. Dota 2 also remains king, as the top most played game on Steam by a wide margin, with titles like Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2 and Skyim trailing behind in the top ten.

On the 1st of January, Dota 2 had a peak player count of just over 874,000, with Counter-Strike trailing in second place with just over 360,000 users at its peak.

It is clear that Valve's free to play business strategy with Dota 2 is working very well.

KitGuru Says: PC gaming is constantly growing, meaning that naturally, Valve will see a boost in Steam users as well. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for this new concurrent record to be topped.

The launch of the new Intel Core Ultra 200S family of CPUs along with Z890 motherboards was a thorny process. KitGuru suffered along with pretty much every other review site on the planet and you may have noticed we held off from reviewing of the Core Ultra 9 285K, Core Ultra 7 265K and Core Ultra 5 245K as it is clear to us that Intel has some work to do before this platform is ready for action.
