Nokia N1 sells out of 20,000 units in 4 minutes

The new tablet from Nokia, the N1 started with a limited production run of 20,000 units and was only being sold in mainland China. I say was, as the initial pre-order has already sold out, in 4 whole minutes! As of several hours ago there were 566,438 customers in China on a waiting list to buy one and that number is probably going up.

Priced for the Chinese market at 1,599 CNY (around $260 USD/£170 GBP) its no wonder this thing is selling so fast as it has some pretty nice specs. With a 2.4 Ghz Intel Atom Z3580 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and running Android 5.0 Lollipop stock with only Nokia's Z Launcher software installed this thing should be plenty fast. It is also going to be one of the first devices packing a USB-Type C connector, but it remains to see what speed this will be running at.

Matthew talked about the N1 in a little more depth here if you are interested in some of the other features.

Interesting the tablet itself has been designed by Nokia but everything else, including manufacturing, sales, and support is being handled by Foxconn, the company that has made a name for itself as a major manufacturer of Apple products and not without it's fair share of controversy. This does seem as though they are just buying the Nokia name and brand loyalty, maybe this is now one of Nokia's best assets along with it's patents.

For now, those of you wanting to buy one of these will have to wait, with the tablet being sold exclusively in China for now. A release date for the rest of the world has not yet been announced by Nokia.

KitGuru Says: The N1 sure looks like a nice tablet but it is coming into a crowded market place with lots of Android tablets being crazy cheap. Will it reach the right point between price, functionality, looks and marketing to make it a winner? These early sales estimates sure seem to say yes.
