Microsoft is looking in to PC to Xbox One streaming as well

Earlier this week Microsoft held a Windows 10 press event, at which Xbox head, Phil Spencer revealed upcoming gaming features for the OS, the biggest of which was the ability to stream Xbox One titles to the PC. However, it turns out that Microsoft is also looking in to streaming PC titles to the Xbox One as well, which makes perfect sense.

Speaking in an interview with Eurogamer, Microsoft Studio Manager, Mike Ybarra, said that right now the company doesn't have further details to share but it is looking in to streaming PC games to Xbox One consoles. Phil Spencer is due to reveal more at the Game Developers Conference in March so we may learn more then.

As far as the original plan goes, Microsoft currently has Xbox One to PC streaming running at 720p and 30 frames per second but is hoping to bump that up to 1080p and 60 frames per second by the time the feature launches with Windows 10.

In-home game streaming has grown in popularity over the the last year, with dedicated hardware being launched just for that purpose from the likes of Razer and NZXT. It may pay off for Microsoft to expand on its streaming functionality.

KitGuru Says: Microsoft making PC games available on the Xbox One would make sense considering the rise in in-home streaming devices, especially with Valve planning to launch its Steam Machine initiative next year. Do you guys think streaming PC games to an Xbox One would be a good idea? Would such a feature make the console more desirable?

  1. Why would I or anyone else for that matter want to stream my PC games to an Xbox One? My PC monitor is far superior to my TV so that’s one reason I’d not stream to the Xbox right there. Am I missing something? I just don’t get why anyone wants this.

  2. You get the convenience of sitting in your living room. My chair is great, I love it, but sometimes I just want to lie back and relax.

  3. Well considering my setup is all in one room I guess I’m just not the target market then. Still wouldn’t sacrifice quality for convenience, unless you have a 4k tv that is i guess.

  4. Same here, but for people who already own an Xbox One and want to play, say, modded skyrim…

  5. eeeeeww, Skyrim (modded or otherwise) on a controller, heresy 🙂

  6. I was right, then. They’re going for a steam box type setup and it makes a whole lot of sense.

  7. The same reason you’d use steam in home streaming. For instance, when me and my wife want to play Tomb Raider TGoL, we use the streaming to the HTPC in the front room. It’s a good idea.

But you can still play modded skyrim on what I assume is a good pc since you’re playing modded skyrim o.o

Why the hell should i go from 4k at 60 fps to 720p with 30 fps?

  10. are you really that thick? or just trolling/dont know anything about what the console can do?
