Microsoft only managed to sell 300 Xbox One units in Japan last week

Microsoft just can't seem to catch a break in Japan, while Xbox One sales numbers have improved greatly in the US and Europe over the past year, things are still lacking in the Japanese market as just 300 consoles were sold in the country last week.

Last week marked the console's worst week in Japan ever. When the console initially launched, Microsoft managed to sell 23,000 units in the first week but things have only gone downhill from there as many Japanese consumers seem to remain loyal to Sony and Nintendo.

The PlayStation 4 on the other hand managed to sell 14,000 units last week, making the Xbox One's attempt to break in to the Japanese market pretty weak in comparison. The PlayStation Vita TV even managed to outsell the Xbox One with just 384 units sold.

GameIndustry.biz has a run down of last week's console sales in Japan, with the new 3DS XL leading the pack, followed by the PS Vita, PS4, New 3DS, Wii U, PS3, the old 3DS, the PS Vita TV and the Xbox One coming in dead last.

Unless Microsoft has some huge JRPG exclusive planned, there doesn't seem to be much hope for the console in the Japanese market.

KitGuru Says: Microsoft's consoles have failed to shake up the Japenese market for years so the Xbox One performing badly isn't too surprising. However, it seems doubtful that Microsoft would pull out of the market completely.

  1. The PS4 currently outsell the XB1 nearly 2 to 1 worldwide. Is there any other statistic that matter at this point?
