Assassin’s Creed Black Flag reached over 34 million players

Released all the way back in 2013, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag holds a special place in many AC fans’ hearts, with some deeming it to have been the best entry in the entire franchise. As the game now reaches its 10th anniversary, Ubisoft has revealed that Black Flag has been experienced by over 34 million players.

Taking to Twitter to honour its birthday, Ubisoft released updated statistics on just how many people experienced this much-loved entry, saying:

“Today, we're celebrating the 10th anniversary of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag! Over 34 million pirates have embarked on this unforgettable adventure through the Caribbean. Thank you for taking this journey with us! What is your favorite memory from the game?”

As mentioned, there are many who would deem Black Flag to be the best entry in the entire Assassin’s Creed series. At the very least, it is hard to not to argue that the game represents one of the strongest examples of classic open-world AC design principles – boosted by the fact that it was the first entry to be developed for the PS4 and Xbox One generation.

This fondness for Black flag is exacerbated by the fact that its follow-up – 2014’s AC Unity – was a bug-ridden mess at launch, and contributed to the notion that the AC series was beginning to get stale (which Ubisoft then remedied a few years later with Origins and its more RPG-like approach).

With Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag officially a decade old, it is high time that the game receives some sort of remaster – a sentiment mirrored by many fans. It will be interesting to see if Ubisoft has any such plan in the works.
