Bungie joined PlayStation Studios in 2022 for around $3.6 billion. Since then, the studio has been working on its next PvP game, Matter, alongside the big finale to Destiny 2's Light V Dark story arc with The Final Shape expansion. Unfortunately, The Final Shape has now faced a multi-month delay and beyond that, Bungie joins a growing list of studios laying off staff.
According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, Bungie let go off an undisclosed number of employees today and held an all-hands meeting to explain the situation to staff. While not confirmed by Sony or Bungie at the time of publishing, the report also states that Destiny 2: The Final Shape has been delayed from February 2024 to June.
This lengthy delay for The Final Shape will certainly hurt, as it means Bungie will have to stretch out seasonal content, or put together a less ambitious season for players to take place in the interim.
Beyond that, while Matter was apparently planned to release in 2024, that game has also slipped to 2025.

KitGuru Says: Given that this news is now out there, we would expect to see Bungie respond soon, especially to confirm The Final Shape's release date.
