Last week, Qualcomm officially announced its new 12-core processor for PCs, the Snapdragon X Elite, planned to become available in 2024. Now just one week later, Qualcomm has released the first benchmarks, comparing the chip to competing Intel and AMD laptop processors.
Qualcomm used its two reference design laptops for benchmarking the Snapdragon X Elite, one with an 80W TDP and the other with a 23W TDP, so we can get a look at performance at high and low power settings.
In the Geekbench v6.2 ST test, the Oryon CPU in the Snapdragon Elite X just manages to edge out the Core i9-13980HX, with 3227 points to 3192 points. However, the Snapdragon chip also uses less power.
Up against the Apple M2, another Arm-based laptop processor, the Snapdragon Elite X scored 2,940 points in 80W mode and 2,780 points in the 23W mode. Both of these scores are higher than the M2, which sits at 2,658 points in the same Geekbench test. In the Multi-thread benchmark, the 80W Snapdragon scores 15,130 points, ahead of a Core i7-13800H at 14,343 points. In 23W mode, the Snapdragon scores 14,000 points, versus 12,181 points for the Ryzen 9 7940HS and 10,088 for the Apple M2.
In Cinebench 2024, the Snapdragon X Elite scores 132 points in the ST benchmark and 1,220 points in the MT benchmark in 80W mode. In 23W mode, it scores 122 points and 950 points in those same tests. This beats out the Core i7-13800H and the Ryzen 9 7940HS at 115 points and 109 points, respectively, in the ST benchmark.
As for GPU performance, the Snapdragon X Elite scores 44.5FPS in the Wildlife Extreme benchmark at 80W TDP, and 38.5FPS at 23W TDP. The integrated Adreno GPU beats out the Ryzen 9 7940HS and the Core i7-13800H at 28.9FPS and 26.6FPS.
Of course, these benchmarks are all conducted via Linux, so it could fare differently in a Windows environment. We'll have to wait until next year to see a more comprehensive set of benchmarks, as well as the first independent benchmarks.

KitGuru Says: This is an early look at Snapdragon X Elite performance. So far, Qualcomm does seem to be positioning this against the mainstream AMD and Intel options, so it will be interesting to see how much interest this draws from laptop makers next year.
