Sony has sold SOE

Sony has sold off Sony Online Entertainment to an investment management firm known as Columbus Nova. The developer will now be re-branded as Daybreak Game Company and will finally be able to make games for other platforms.

SOE has been responsible for many multiplayer titles, including DC Universe, EverQuest, the recently launched H1Z1 and even Star Wars Galaxies back in the day. The announcement was made by an SOE employee on Reddit who said: “This name embodies who we are as an organisation, and is a nod to the passion and dedication of our employees and players. It is also representative of our vision to approach each new day as an opportunity to move gaming forward.”

SOE

Just last year SOE had to let go a bunch of employees at its San Diego and Austin offices. According to Tech Crunch, SOE's new owner, Columbus Nova, will continue to support the publisher's current online catalogue and plans to release Everquest Next soon are still on track.

Apparently the console and mobile platforms will play an important part in Daybreak Game's future. Company President, John Smedley even went as far as to announce on Twitter that he “can't wait to make Xbox One games!”

KitGuru Says: Sony has been cutting off parts of its business over the last year in an effort to return to profitability. SOE will still be around, although it will be under a new name and will have much more freedom now that it isn't tied down to Sony. What do you guys make of this? Was selling off SOE a good move?

The launch of the new Intel Core Ultra 200S family of CPUs along with Z890 motherboards was a thorny process. KitGuru suffered along with pretty much every other review site on the planet and you may have noticed we held off from reviewing of the Core Ultra 9 285K, Core Ultra 7 265K and Core Ultra 5 245K as it is clear to us that Intel has some work to do before this platform is ready for action.

  1. Couldn’t care less about PS or Xbox as long as a developer releases good games on PC.

Same people. It’s a sale of the company and IP’s not a new team of staff building games or repairing older ones.
