Two students from Ajdovscina, Slovenia will be starting a project in January called Oriolus on IndieGoGo.

As you'll see in our video this is a fun USB gadget for the PC enthusiast that reports CPU and RAM usage with a pair of traditional dial gauges. Sebastjan Vuga (one of the two students) tells us that manufacturing will start as soon as they get enough interest on IndieGoGo and that sales will begin as soon as the first dozen items is made and properly tested.
The idea is that they will launch their IndieGoGo campaign mid-late January, that manufacturing will begin some time in February and people should have their Oriolus-es around late March or early April.
The unit you see in the video and photos is the Standard version that will cost €45 or £35 while the naked version (minus housing) will cost €30 or £20 and is intended for modders who refer to build their own.
If Oriolus there are some upgrades in the pipeline
- detachable USB cable
- make the whole product more bullet-proof, for example so it works with case-mounted USB ports.
- more detailing on casing and software
Other upgrades will come as they see what people like/don't like on the forums.

What really is the point, most (infact, all) PC’s have CPU/Ram monitoring (since Widgets were introduced in Vista)
Also the Logitech G Series of keyboards (and others) can display CPU/RAM constantly…
There’s also Asus boards that have a little LCD display which can display this info….
There’s also various 5 and 1/4 bay add-ons that also do the same…
I can see that the only ones who would buy this, would be enthusiasts, but then, they will probably have multiple displays and have that info on one of them (like I do) or have some other kit or hardware which shows these read outs any way…
in a world we’re trying to make things wireless, and less cluttered, and smaller, they create a device that takes up space (and not a small amount either) and actually has no reasonable reason for use..
if it was £5 I might consider buying, even £10 feels too much

Fair enough, but there’s many apps out there that do similar (or the same) and as I said, with multiple displays, there is plenty of room for such, and those who would most likely be the target consumer for this, would also be the most likely to have one (or more) additional monitors..
I am considering acquiring one of these, and I only have one screen.
Indeed gadgets/widgets were removed with Windows 8 but Live tiles can display the same information or download a 3rd party software to enable gadgets again such as 8gadgetlauncher. I just check the info on task manager which is pinned to my task bar anyway.
I agree with Ghozer what is the point of this, the price point is really high and their are cheaper ways to access this information from external displays which have more functionality as well. The only nice bit is the modding community may want it and I can think of a few steampunk cases where it would look incredible but £20 is a lot to ask for a couple of limited gauges with a simple software in the background.
