Resident Evil 2 remade in Unreal Engine 3

Fans of the Resident Evil series have been asking for a remake of the second game for some time now but Capcom has repeatedly focussed on updating the original game. However, one series fan went ahead and remade the second game himself, using Unreal Engine 3.

A walkthrough of the build is currently available online, where remake creator, Rod Lima, plays the game all of the way through from start to finish. The remake is not available to download right now though and probably never will be.

Lima built the game to teach himself how to effectively use Unreal Engine and has no plans to release his remake publicly. The remake uses Resident Evil 2's classic fixed camera points, rather than an over the shoulder view. The game also uses 3D environments.

Lima also incorporated the original game's weapon, save and inventory systems alongside the sound effects and cut scenes.

Maybe the success of the recent Resident Evil 1 HD remaster, coupled with this fan made remake, will push Capcom to make an HD version of Resident Evil 2.

KitGuru Says: This is purely an educational project and probably isn't on Capcom or Epic Game's radar. However, it is good work nonetheless. Would you guys like to see an official Resident Evil 2 remaster?

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

  1. GREAT now watch capcom shut it down

  2. Didn’t you read the whole article?

“Lima built the game to teach himself how to effectively use Unreal Engine and has no plans to release his remake publicly.”

  3. So they can’t do squat; except maybe hire him and get it polished and released. Maybe with online co-op? *crosses fingers* and maybe include the third game in there.

  4. “probably never will be” yea right.

  5. Co op would ruin it imo

  6. Resident evil 1-3 should never be a co op.

  7. Mandatory coop yeah, but I was talking about ‘optional’ online or split screen coop, no AI character if you’re alone… that way if you have a friend that wants to join in, it’s still possible. But the core gameplay is preserved if you want to do the classic ‘dark room and surround headset’ solo session.

  8. Being alone is what brings that sense of fear, its what removed any scares from 5 and 6(Ada being the exception). The same applies to Dead Space 3.co op simply removes any fear factor.

  9. I guess you’re right, Resident Evil’s alone with monsters formula is pretty much set; I’m still waiting on a game that brings both fear and coop.
I dream of a game where, yeah… you’re not alone… but that doesn’t matter. It’s still pants pooing scary.

  10. Looks great, other than the massively overdone SSAO ‘halo of evil’ around the characters. I really don’t understand why anyone likes the effect.
