OCZ Challenge update: All 5 ARC 100 SSD’s hit 300TB mark

Regular readers will know of the challenge submitted to KitGuru by OCZ – to kill 5 of their ARC 100 Solid State Drives. If you need a recap, then head back to this original page posted on December 10th.

The drives all passed the warranty figure of 200TB on 23rd January 2015 – our next test was to get them all past the 300TB mark. Would any fail?

One of the drives is now showing warning signs that things may be going wrong. That said, they have all long passed their warranty terms of 22TB data so we would expect some issues to start creeping in. How long they all last after this point, remains to be seen.

OCZ are hoping that this test will go some way to repair their reputation which suffered in previous years after well known problems with the Sandforce 2281 controller. OCZ no longer use this controller and have introduced a new ‘ShieldPlus Warranty System' to reassure customers.

The ‘ShieldPlus Warranty system’ eliminates the requirement for ‘proof of purchase’ … if a drive fails. A brand new SSD is shipped to the OCZ customer of the same capacity, in advance. When the replacement is received by the customer they can then send their old faulty drive back with a prepaid envelope. Yes it all does seem too good to be true, but we can’t find any catch.

We will be updating this stress test soon, and once a drive fails we will be reporting on it. Are one or two of them about to die horribly – its a possibility!

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

  1. Very nice warranty. Always a pain in the a** when you have to ship the parts back, and just sit there and wait for them to test it, maybe try to repair it and then send you a new one.

  2. My OCZ died, from the start of my ticket to receiving my new parts (during the holidays too) it took fromthe 16th of December to 5th of January. I find that pretty darn fast for RMA. Too bad I cannot say the same for MSI.

  3. The drives all passed the warranty figure of 200TB on 23rd January 2015

That said, they have all long passed their warranty terms of 22TB

    some confusion here…………………..

  4. The drives all passed their 22TB warranty period on Christmas Day, then hit 100TB on 9th January, 200TB on 21st January and have now reached 300TB.

  5. there is a firmware update for ARC100 series marked as mandatory, maybe you should try it before the drives die
