EVGA on Monday introduced what could be the world’s most powerful graphics card based on Nvidia Corp.’s GeForce GTX 980 graphics processing unit. The new graphics board is designed to deliver extraordinary overclockability. It is expected that the new graphics adapter will set multiple performance records. The product is currently available for pre-order exclusively to EVGA customers.
The EVGA GeForce GTX 980 K|NGP|N graphics card is based on a custom 12-layer printed circuit board with 14+3 power phase design. Thanks to three power inputs (8pin + 8pin + 6pin) and very high-quality voltage regulation module, the card can use up to 450W of power and up to 600A current to deliver great overclockability. Default clock-rate of the GPU is 1291MHz, which is one of the highest in the industry. The graphics board can temporarily boost the frequency of the GPU to 1393MHz.
Vince “K|NGP|N ” Lucido, a leading extreme overclocker, has managed to overclock the EVGA GTX 980 Kingpin Edition graphics card to 2.20GHz/8900MHz core/memory using liquid nitrogen, which is on par with the world's record.
“The power designs for both the GPU and memory on the EVGA GeForce GTX 980 K|NGP|N graphics card should allow some insane overclocking and some of the highest clockspeeds seen to date,” said Mr. Lucido. “Also, with the new multi-color LED cooler, you can customize the look of the card to fit any system.”
At present only existing owners of registered EVGA products can pre-order the unique graphics cards. Each of such adapters will be priced at $749, which is a lot for such graphics solutions. Pre-orders are scheduled to begin shipping the week of February 19th, 2015.
