Some professional CS:GO players to face random home checks

Cheating in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive professional scene is a pretty big problem, which seems to have gotten worse over the last year or so. However, now pro players may have to undergo random inspections, during which admins will show up at player homes and inspect their computers or witness them playing a match.

This new anti-cheat measure is being implemented by competitive league, Faceit. The league's official rule-book, which is only given to participating players, says: “All players may be subject to visits from FACEIT admins to inspect their computers for cheats and/or observe them playing an official match. Inspections may happen at random and may not necessarily suggest a suspicion of cheating. To be clear, what we're saying is we may turn up at your house. Yes, we are serious.”

As Kotaku points out, this is essentially the eSports equivalent to random drug testing for steroids. However, it is currently unknown to what extent this rule will be enforced, it could end up being a very costly and time-consuming practice in the long run, particularly if some players have managed to get away with cheating on stage at events.

It is also probable that some cheats are stored on USB drives, which are easy to unplug and throw away if an admin shows up at a player's house to inspect their PC. Faceit's strategy may not be perfect but it may succeed in scaring some of the professional players straight.

KitGuru Says: One thing to point out is that Faceit is just one competitive league enforcing this rule, if other tournament organizers aren't going to enforce something similar then there is still plenty of opportunity for cheating in the professional CS:GO scene. What do you guys think of this? Are random home checks too much? Could Faceit's strategy work?

  1. I think its something that all eSports tournament organizers should do, with the entire fiasco that’s been going on with CS:GO lately its no surprise and tournament providers want eSports to be taken seriously then its something thats going to need to be done… There will always be cheaters and match-fixers in any competitive element

  2. Yeah. it’s like athletes and steroids, they get checked so, so should CS:GO players haha

  3. on pc gaming there are plenty of cheating going on whatever the event or online gaming is happening,to be serious you cant stop it and this can effect the industry as it is as i for one dont feel challenged as i know a hacker is online for better k/d i use the ps4 ,online gaming and pc for cheap games but spend more time on ps4 if they dont sort it out it will get worse and you will see a drop i myself wont buy new parts my money will be spent elsewhere

  4. Hackers are pathetic wankers anyway, hate going back to enjoy some old games online for nostalgia’s sake and then some dickhead that thinks he’s hilarious with his puny no dick hacks joins the lobby and ruins it for everyone just because he’s a selfish asshole and the community as a whole would be better if they all just murdered by Barack Obama because god only knows nobody would miss them! Doing it on a game like CS:GO just further proves how much of a c**t these people are!

  5. if they’re willing to do that why not.

  6. Lol are you kidding me… yeah because i’m going to let a so called “admin” into my fucking house to inspect my computer are you kidding me who the hell in the right mind would just let some random dude walk into your house they act like there showing up with warents and shit these admins cant do shit and dont let them pretend that they can. its called “the bill of rights”

  7. Just and FYI, we have rights in America. Don’t get shot in the face because you don’t realize you trying to
    be a Nazi.

  8. It’s obvious that this is something much similar to a contract which the pro players have to agree with to be allowed to participate in FACEIT tournaments. So refusing them would get themselves banned from playing as professionals.

  9. I think its just to easy to go onto a site, drop $50 and have access to thousands of game hacks for what? a couple of months subscription?

Anti Cheat presence on a players PC needs to be more discreet and more deadly, I stopped playing BF 4 because of the cheaters…so many people I was told was “just that good” caught by PB, at one point it felt like I was the only legit player on Bf4 next to the guy getting 1 for 20.

  10. I think its safe to say you’ve never been involved in the eSports scene then Warcal22, when my clan and I were sponsored for Call of Duty 4 it was written into our contract that the organizer and sponsor could conduct random checks of our systems to ensure we didn’t use any hacks and such

  11. Now that youve mentioned Obama and how hes upped the jail time for cyber crimes. Cheaters slightly if not significantly ruin a game’s bottom line. Games with online gameplay should put a clause that allow “cheats” to be considered malicious hacking. Especially when big time money prizes are at stake on the so called “Professional (rigged matches/cheaters)” level. How it would be enforced for foreign cheaters, idk.

  12. If you are involved in esports and you deny any inspections, you are barred from future matches thus ending your career.

Even with house inspections, they are only allowed to do so much, so theres going to be countless ways to evade detection under such circumstances.

If you ask me this announcement is a publicity stunt, in light of all the recent upheaval in the CS: GO pro leagues.

  13. I think they should take it one step further, i think a third party should be brought in to cover all E-Sports to do house checks on peoples PC’s and Event PC’s, and if they refuse to let someone in to inspect their system then they don’t get to play, it’s as simple as that, people want E-sports to be taken as serious as athletic sports then they should expect things like this. If a sporting body wanted to check a boxers House/Gym/Body for steroids and he/she refused they would simply not be aloud to compete.

If something drastic like this is not done e-sports will not last, all the cheats we’ve seen over the past year are putting over 10 years worth of hard work other people have put into building E-Sports up in danger.

It’s selfish and it has to stop and i think this is the way to get it stopped.
