Want a factory-overclocked GeForce GTX Titan XXX 24GB? Ask OcUK!

Nvidia Corp.’s GeForce GTX Titan X graphics card is currently the most powerful single-chip graphics solution for gaming on the planet. But what if you want something else, something even more powerful? The folks over at Overclockers UK know exactly what you need.

OcUK advertises a mythical BFG GeForce Titan XXX OC2 24576MB GDDR5 graphics card. The graphics board is powered by the GM200 “Big Maxwell” graphics processing unit factory overclocked to 1268MHz/1493MHz (base/boost) and comes with 24GB of memory operating at whopping 8.60GHz (8600MHz). The price of the fabled graphics card is claimed to be £1666.66 inc VAT and the ETA date is (yes, you guessed it right!) the 1st of April, 2015. The store offers to “register your interest” by dropping them “a webnote”.

While the BFG GeForce GTX Titan XXX does not exist, it is actually possible to build one. Nvidia allows its partners to factory-overclock the GM200 graphics processor, therefore, it is possible to cherry-pick GPUs that can operate at 1300MHz – 1400MHz stably. Samsung is currently sampling 8Gb GDDR5 memory chips (which are needed to build graphics cards with 24GB of memory) capable of operating at effective clock-rate of 8GHz (8000MHz) and which can also be overclocked. Finally, reference design of Nvidia’s GeForce GTX Titan X allows boosting GPU and memory voltages; hence, it is possible to ensure stable operation at high frequencies.

Even though there is a theoretical possibility to make a factory-overclocked GeForce GTX Titan XXX 24GB, this is something that will hardly be ever built. Nvidia does not sell GM200 graphics processors. The company ships fully-assembled GeForce GTX Titan X graphics cards made by a contract manufacturer to its partners. As a result, companies like Asustek Computer or EVGA can cherry-pick graphics boards that can operate stably when overclocked, tweak their BIOS settings and sell them at a premium price. It is impossible to build a GeForce GTX Titan X on a custom printed circuit board with unique voltage regulation module and different memory chips.

Still, we can dream about a 24GB Titan X graphics card, can’t we? At the end, 32GB graphics cards powered by the “Big Pascal” graphics processing units will be available in the coming years!

BFG Technologies was well-known for its high-end factory-overclocked graphics cards in mid-2000s. The company went defunct in late 2010 after running into allocation issues with Nvidia GeForce GTX 400-series graphics processors.

KitGuru Says: In fact, since PNY claims that 24GB is not too much for the Quadro M6000 and there are 8Gb GDDR5 chips incoming, it is possible that professional graphics cards with 24GB of onboard memory will be available this year. If Nvidia does not slow-down game performance of such adapters, it will even be possible to buy and use one for gaming. Probably, for £4000 – £6000 in the U.K. or $5000 – $7000 in the U.S. By the way, how much would you pay for a unique graphics adapter?
