Bungie adds new ‘loremaster’ to Destiny writing team

Bungie has gone ahead and hired former Guild Wars 2 writer, John Ryan, to be the new ‘loremaster' for Destiny, it has been confirmed. The company aimed to strengthen its writing staff working on the game, following the departure of lead writer, Joseph Staten, just a year before release.

The former lead writer's sudden exit is rumored to be the main reason Bungie changed so much of Destiny's story shortly before release. Bungie is still looking for a new lead writer and a narrative designer, according to the studio's careers page.

Last year, Destiny lost another writer, who jumped ship to join Telltale Games. So far it is unclear what John Ryan's new role as ‘loremaster' will entail but given that he is in charge of the lore, I imagine it will have something to do with the grimoire cards and back story for future expansions.

KitGuru Says: Hopefully with new writers on board, Bungie can get the Destiny story back on track with future expansions. Particularly the big September expansion, which we have seen some leaks of already. Do any of you guys think Bungie can still salvage Destiny's story?
