Originally said to be a mere expansion to last year’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, Activision announced that 2023 would see the release of a new standalone ‘premium’ COD entry: Modern Warfare III. Alongside the inclusion of all guns from last year’s game, MWIII will also bring forward a select number of “fan-favourite” maps throughout future seasons.
Ahead of Call of Duty MWIII’s arrival on the 10th of November, Activision released a blog post detailing some of the post-launch content which players can expect to get their hands on, saying:
“To further augment an already-impressive selection of Core 6v6 maps, we are excited to announce that a number of fan-favorite Modern Warfare II maps will gradually become available to play in Modern Warfare III throughout the live seasons.”
Going into further detail, they continued, “The initial selection — scheduled to be four Core 6v6 maps that include Farm 18, Mercado, and Shoot House — will become available shortly after launch in a dedicated Playlist, and more will follow throughout the Live Seasons.”
These maps will be 1:1 with their MWII counterparts, but due to the evolution of the movement and shooting mechanics coming with MWIII, there will likely be a change to the overall game flow.
Finally, it is worth noting that these maps will be additive, meaning they will be included on top of the already promised post-launch content. The strategy for MWIII is an interesting one, and so it’ll be curious to see whether the recycled content will boost or hinder the upcoming title in the long run.
