HTC is still working on its smartwatch

HTC has had its own smartwatch in the works for a while but so far, it has yet to show anything but the CEO is maintaining that the company is still working on it and that it is trying to be careful with how it approaches wearable technology.

The HTC Smartwatch will run Android Wear and has been circulating the rumor mill for a long time. Many were expecting the device to be revealed at a press conference a few days ago but that didn't end up happening. Speaking with CNET, HTC said that it was still working on the device.

HTC CEO, Peter Chou, told CNET that “We try to be very careful instead of just putting out whatever, so we keep working on it”. Last year HTC pointed towards an ‘early 2015' release window for its wearable but obviously that release window has slipped.

Google itself announced HTC as an Android Wear partner last year so it is at least working on an Android Wear device or had one in the works at some point. By the time HTC does launch its smartwatch, it will have a lot more to compete with thanks to the launch of the Apple Watch.

KitGuru Says: HTC is still working on its smartwatch, it sounds like the company is still working out how much it can get away with in terms of performance and battery life. Right now wearables aren't that popular but things might change when the Apple Watch launches, which will make the market tougher for newcomers.
