Cyanogen re-brands and partners up with Qualcomm

Cyanogen has announced that it will be re-branding this soon, moving away from its custom ROM roots even further. the company is ditching its previous Android mascot logos in favor of cleaner, simpler look. In addition to this, Qualcomm will be using Cyanogen built software on its own reference design products.

Cyanogen under its new banner will be partnering up with Qualcomm to make software for the company's Reference Design products, which will launch later this year. These reference products are intended to make it easier for device makers to ship their new creations faster thanks to a ready-made platform.

The Cyanogen partnership will provide software and User Interface elements to devices using a Snapdragon 200, 400 or 600 series processor, targeting the low to mid range end of the market.

This partnership is a big one for Cyanogen as it will get its software on to more devices than ever before. According to Cyanogen co-founder, Steve Kondik, the company will be trying to “raise the bar for the software experience” on cheaper devices.

  1. Good for them, I guess. I just hope they stay open source. So many custom ROMs are based off of CM.

  2. they should keep their roots and still make the modding community alive. i myself am using CM and i am more than happy with it compared to my stock ROM with touchwiz.
