Microsoft will move away from the Internet Explorer brand

Microsoft has confirmed that it is going to stop using the Internet Explorer brand with the launch of its new browser, currently known as ‘Project Spartan’. This has been hinted at in the past but speaking at Microsoft Convergence yesterday, Marketing Chief, Chris Capossela confirmed it.

“We’re now researching what the new brand, or the new name, for our browser should be in Windows 10. We’ll continue to have Internet Explorer, but we’ll also have a new browser called Project Spartan, which is codenamed Project Spartan. We have to name the thing.”

Internet Explorer will still exist on some versions of Windows 10, mainly for enterprise compatibility purposes. However, Project Spartan will get a new name and will become the primary browser for Windows 10 users, should they choose to stick with it over something like Chrome of Firefox.

Microsoft is currently testing new names for market research. It is possible that the new name for the Spartan browser will be announced at the Microsoft Developers Conference at the end of April.

KitGuru Says: Microsoft couldn’t seem to move past the bad reputation that Internet Explorer had garnered over the years. What do you guys think Microsoft should call its new browser? I actually thought that Spartan would have been a fine name.

They’re taking as much user feedback for Spartan as they have for Windows 10 itself and thusly I have faith in it. If it’s already installed and it’s quick and good enough why should I also need to install Chrome/Firefox in the end

  3. Honestly, I was disappointed by explorer, I was disappointed by bing, I don’t even want to try spartan. But hey, Everyone deserves a chance, even if its just gonna use things that were innovated by chrome and firefox.

  4. If google have Chrome (earth), Mozilla have Firefox (fire), I think Microsoft should name the browser Tsunami (water)
