Apple now accepts old Android devices for trade-in

Apple is now accepting old Android devices in its stores, in exchange for credit towards an iPhone purchase. The new trade-in program starts today, aside from Android devices; Apple also accepts BlackBerry devices and Windows Phones.

The trade-in scheme rolls out in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France and Italy, so it is available in a lot of places. Obviously, the phone will still need to have some value for it to be eligible for credit towards an iPhone.

Apple initially began accepting trade-ins back in 2013, though it never operated the program entirely on its own. The trade-in scheme is run through a company called Brightstar, which is why it is happy to accept Android devices.

Trade-ins are never the best value option though. They are convenient but you will still likely get more for your device by selling on eBay.

KitGuru Says: iPhones are pretty expensive, so even after trading in a device, the final bill will probably still be quite high. Would any of you guys trade in an old Android device for an iPhone? Not everyone is a fan of the closed off system that iOS operates.

  1. I wouldn’t take an iPhone for free (unless I could sell it on).
Why the hell would I give up my phone to pay £899 instead of £900….

  3. Most people view the iPhone as the ideal smartphone. Many use Android and Windows phones simply because of the price. The only reason Apple have kept the 5C and 5S on sale is so that they appeal to a wider audience without looking cheap. More people in the Apple ecosystem is good for them, and this plan makes them look charitable and practical. They could sell the phones at the doscounted price all the time and still make profit; they want to remove the possiblility you even look back at Windows or Android.

You and I may prefer Android, but most much prefer iOS and the Apple product line.

  4. People prefer Apple because it is seen as a status symbol.

  5. As of six months ago, Android was in the lead for most users. Don’t say things like “Most much prefer iOS” and “Most people view the iPhone as the ideal smartphone.” because that is simply not true.

  6. I don’t use Android phones because its cheap. (Android phones aren’t all cheap) I use it because of its flexibility and ability to modify/tweak anything I want. Imo I would not give up the flexibility of an Android phone for an Apple device.
But then again, I still don’t mind Apple. Just prefer Android for what it is.
Personal preference really. It’s like comparing Linux to other OSs.

  7. One of the reasons why I will never buy a iPhone is iTunes and all the other crap that comes along with it. I have had malware that installs less crap then what iTunes does…
