Microsoft has launched its SDK for developers looking to create apps for the upcoming Windows 10 operating system. The SDK will allow developers to make apps that can work across all Windows 10 devices, including PCs, phones, tablets and the Xbox One.
The new SDK will feature an adaptive UX for different form factors but it will also have ways to detect what type of input is being used, whether that is the traditional mouse and keyboard combination, a touch screen or even an Xbox gamepad.
API contracts will allow the app to determine whether certain features are available on specific devices, which will be good for device compatibility purposes. Apps will be able to detect the difference between mobile devices and traditional computers, as well as those with and without hardware buttons and then adapt accordingly, bringing you the UI that makes sense on the current device you happen to be using.
The SDK is currently experimental and is meant for preview purposes, as Windows 10 itself isn’t finished yet, although it is currently pegged for a summer release.

KitGuru Says: Developers can now get started on making cross-device applications for Windows 10. Microsoft is working hard to develop its own ecosystem right now, it will be interesting to see how many developers support it.
