The long-rumoured 3D South Park game gets reveal trailer and release date

We've known for a while now that there is a new South Park video game in the works, transitioning away from the 2D-style RPGs towards a fully 3D game. Last year, we learned that THQ Nordic was working on it and now, South Park: Snow Day has officially been announced with a new trailer.

South Park: Snow Day is a collaborative effort between small California-based studio, Question Games, and THQ Nordic. While previous popular South Park titles were multiplayer turn-based RPGs, this time around we are getting a co-op shooter of sorts, themed around the kids in South Park enjoying a Snow Day, just as the title suggests.

The reveal trailer does include gameplay and while it is weird to see South Park characters in 3D like this, it doesn't look as bad as I personally thought it would. In keeping with the South Park RPGs, players will be taking on the role of the ‘New Kid' in town, interacting with various established characters from the show.

In squads of four, players will traverse through levels using melee and ranged combat abilities to save the town from some imaginary form of destruction. The game will take on more of a fantasy setting, like The Stick of Truth.

The game will be available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and Nintendo Switch, with a tentative release window set for March 2024. The studio is looking to keep the initial cost down to foster a healthy multiplayer community, so it will only cost £24.99 at launch, rather than being a full priced release.

KitGuru Says: I loved the South Park RPGs and while I probably will check this out, it doesn't seem like my kind of game. Still, by leveraging the South Park IP, we could be looking at a very fresh-feeling multiplayer game here.
