Over the last couple of weeks, Embark Studios' The Finals was in open beta across all platforms. Judging by the Steam numbers alone, it looks like this game is set to be a hit, with millions playing during the beta and propelling the game to the number one most wish-listed title on the platform.
Wishlist numbers aren't always a perfect indication. Previously, troubled survival title, The Day Before, was the most wishlisted game on Steam, but that was before people started suspecting that the game didn't exist. The Finals on the other hand is a game that definitely does exist, as over 7.5 million people got to play it during its open beta over the last two weeks.
The Open Beta has come to an end!

The full game will be a free-to-play multiplayer game, centred around the idea of players being contestants in a live game show. Players will walk out to various maps platformed in the middle of a huge arena. The twist is that these maps are entirely destructible, so you can blow through walls, floors and ceilings. The idea here is that the map can evolve as gameplay progresses, taking the Battlefield concept of ‘Leveloution' to a new level, which is quite fitting, as Embark Studios is founded by former Battlefield developers.
Players have three classes to choose from, Light, Medium and Heavy. Light classes have faster movement but lower health, while heavy players will have bigger weapons and more health but will move slower. The medium role is a mix of both, acting as more of a support class with access to healing items.
The Finals will officially release in 2024, so expect an update in a few months time.
