At BlizzCon this week, the Overwatch 2 team unveiled the game's latest hero. Mauga is a new tank hero who dual-wields chainguns and is designed to excel in close-quarters situations. We also get a teaser for what's to come in 2024.
While a lot of people do have complaints about Overwatch 2, the game still pulls a decent amount of players. On Steam, despite the game's ‘Overwhelmingly Negative' review score, the game pulls close to 40,000 concurrent players a day. The Battle.net numbers may be higher, as most Overwatch fans have become used to Blizzard's launcher and may not have switched over to Valve's platform. On Twitch, Overwatch 2 still regularly appears in the top ten most-viewed games, albeit at the lower end of that list.
For those dedicated fans still sticking with Overwatch 2, Blizzard showcased the new tank hero, Mauga, at BlizzCon this weekend and made him playable as part of a trial over this weekend. The new hero will be launching with the game's next season:
In the gameplay trailer, we can see the character's dual chainguns in action, one dealing volatile damage and the other dealing incendiary damage. Other abilities include a leap that deals AoE damage, an unstoppable charge, and the ability ‘Cardiac Overdrive', which allows you to heal while dealing damage. Using the Cage Fight Ult, you can gain infinite ammo for a short time.
Blizzard also teased two more heroes coming to the game in 2024, a new Damage hero named Venture and a new Support hero, currently codenamed Space Ranger. These new heroes will debut in separate seasons next year, alongside a new PvP mode and the return of the Hanamura map.

KitGuru Says: I dropped off of Overwatch 2 after the first few seasons but I still like to keep an eye on the new heroes in case anything particularly exciting shows up. I'm not sure any of this is going to hook me back in yet but we'll see. Did any of you try the new hero character over this weekend?
