A fresh roadmap leak has arrived, claiming to show AMD's plans for Zen 5 as we approach the new year. According to the leak, we should see the first Zen 5 processors in mid-2024, as well as new APUs with beefier integrated graphics.
AMD's roadmap, shared by Moore's Laws Is Dead, outlines the various performance areas it plans to target with its Zen4/5-based mobile APUs and CPUs. The Dragon Range architecture, designed for high-performance gaming computers, is expected to be the market's leading AMD option in 2024. The plan changes for 2025, with the Zen 5-based Fire Range series coming in with up to 16x Zen 5 cores and a 3D V-cache option.
The Strix series is perhaps the most interesting of the bunch. The Strix Point APUs are expected to be released in mid-2024 and will mark the debut of the first mobile Zen 5 chips. These APUs will feature 12x Zen 5 CPU cores and RDNA 3.5 GPU cores paired with an XDNA 2 unit with 45 to 50 TOPS AI performance.
The Strix Halo, reported to have 16x Zen 5 cores and up to 40 RDNA 3.5 CUs, was initially anticipated to be released in 2024, but this apparent leak shows that it has been pushed to 2025. This suggests that AMD's new ‘Elite Experiences' APU category will not be available next year. This chip is also believed to have an XDNA 2 processor with a performance range of 45 to 50 TOPS.
This roadmap also reveals Hawk Point will include RDNA 3 and XDNA 1 GPU/AI cores. Moreover, it will feature 8x Zen 4 cores and provide 16 TOPS of AI acceleration performance. Its replacement, Kraken Point, will also have 8x cores but will use the newer Zen 5 architecture with enhanced RDNA 3.5 graphics and an XDNA 2 processor.
In addition, there is information about Escher, an 8-core Zen 4 chip with RDNA 3 and XDNA 1 architecture. It is expected to replace Rembrandt-R in 2025. In the meantime, in 2024, AMD will reportedly launch Barcelo-R processors as a mainstream, low-power solution.
KitGuru says: AMD is certainly keeping busy if this leak is accurate.
