Apple unveils prices and availability date for Apple Watch

Apple on Monday said that it will begin to sell its long-awaited Apple Watch devices on the 24th of April in nine countries. The company also unveiled prices of different Watch models. As expected, Apple’s smartwatch devices will be considerably more expensive than competing products from Samsung, Pebble and others.

Apple Watch is available in two different sizes, 38mm and 42mm, and in three distinct collections—Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition. Customers will be able to pre-order or try Apple Watch in the company’s stores and online starting the 10th of April, 2015. Beginning 24th of April, the devices will be available for sales in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the U.K. and the U.S.

Apple will sell all three collections of Apple Watch in its own stores. Select boutiques will carry Watch and Watch Edition devices. Some stores will also offer custom bracelets for Apple Watch.

Apple Watch Sport will be priced at $349 and $399; Apple Watch, will be available from $549 to $1,099; and Apple Watch Edition, crafted from custom rose or yellow 18-karat gold alloys, will start at $10,000 with more advance models costing $15,000 and $17,000.

Apple Watch is powered by the S1 system-in-package that includes application processor, memory and various interfaces. The smartwatch can run various applications specifically designed for it as well as work as a health and fitness tracker. The smaller 38mm version of Apple Watch will feature 272*340 display resolution, whereas the larger flavor will sport 312*390 screen resolution, exact sizes of the displays are unclear.

KitGuru Says: While Apple Watch timepieces are more expensive than competing devices, the stainless steel models are not as expensive as one might expect. Therefore, if Apple Watch proves to be useful, they will get rather popular.
