Deus Ex: Mankind Divided to support DX 12 and Tress FX

Earlier this week we were hit with the announcement of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, a sequel to Human Revolution. The game is being built for not just the next generation of consoles, but also the next generation of PC graphics as it will adopt the Direct X 12 API along with AMD's Tress FX 3.0.

Eidos has developed a brand new engine for its latest title in the Deus Ex series, the Dawn Engine has been in the works for a while and it was even teased last year. While the developer is collaborating with AMD for the development of this game, it has opted to use Microsoft's new Direct X 12 API, rather than Mantle.

Tress FX first debuted in the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, giving Lara some advanced hair effects. However, since then the technology hasn't been too widely implemented. Now that it is in version 3.0, it will be interesting to see what else developers can do with the technology.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will launch for the PC, Xbox One and PS4. Players will once again take on the role of Adam Jensen with some brand new augmentations and abilities. There is no set release date for the game just yet though.

KitGuru Says: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is one of the first major titles to be announced for Direct X 12, which is nice as it shows some effort is being put in to the PC version of the game. I was a big fan of Human Revolution, so I'm excited to revisit that world once again. Are any of you guys looking forward to the next Deus Ex?

  1. Nice self-fabricated twist on the “hey they didn’t go for mantle” comment while it was clearly announced AMD dropped mantle in favor of DX12.

    And then somewhat further in the article we all had to forcefully read that the open tressfx wasn’t widely implemented. Good thing you didn’t compare it with the proprietary gameworks-module Hairworks. At least you got that part right.
