YouTube has a paid subscription service on the way

News broke earlier this week that YouTube's long rumored paid subscription service is finally on the way. The new service will let monthly subscribers watch videos without ads and a cut of that revenue will be split between YouTube and content creators.

The idea is to boost revenue for everybody, many YouTubers have pointed out that CPM rates have been pretty poor so far this year and on top of that, a vast amount of users use Adblock these days, which further cuts down on potential earnings for those making their living from YouTube.

Google has confirmed that it is in-fact launching a paid subscription service, coming shortly after the launch of YouTube Music Key, which also has a paid offering, allowing users to listen to music ad-free.

The exact subscription fee has not been set just yet but a notification regarding the upcoming changes was sent out to content creators to give them a heads up. This all comes after it was reveled that despite having such a large amount of users, YouTube isn't actually turning a profit at all.

On-top of that, Google is looking to expand on its live offerings and try to sway Twitch streamers with another wave of planned changes.

KitGuru Says: Nobody really likes adverts but it really is the fairest way to compensate content creators for providing free entertainment. It doesn't cost you anything to view and advert but it helps YouTubers and websites out greatly. The problem is, people are so stuck in their ways at this point that it makes me question how many people would pay to be rid of ads. What do you guys think of having a paid YouTube subscription? Do you use an Ad-blocker? Do you whitelist people you want to support?

  1. So they think that I’d pay to remove something that is already removed for free by my AdBlock+ ? Right…

they could easily use script that would block you access to youtube if you have adblock but they dont do that ? Right?

Appreciate someones work because fucking 5 seconds of ad wont fucking kill you

Well, you’re obviously a bully victim, Patryk.

  5. Having a lot of fans should be enough for people. But no, they must get money from it. I don’t see how most youtubers’ “work” deserves payment.

  6. Yeah, you know why they don’t? Because they’ll lose A LOT of viewers. Youtube’s not the only site in the world, you know. Fucking Google should stop enforcing it’s bullshit on it’s users.

  7. You sound like someone who tried to get decent on Youtube and failed. Lol. Must have been your shitty content. Also let the ads play and click another window in your browser and do something while the ad is playing. Sorted. There are ads on TV so why not Youtube? And hes there are other sites but if they got as big as Youtube thwy would also incorporate ads. Stop whining like a kid who thinks hes entitled to anything he wants. Peasant.

  8. Ads are fine except when its 30 seconds before u can skip

The only issue I have with YouTube’s ads is when it’s on music seeming It’s not theirs to make money off. Google have no right to choose where the ads are if you want ads on your content then let there be ads. If not YouTube shouldn’t be making revenue off of you.

I think it’s fair that Google makes a bit of profit from it, it must be a HUGE operation as far as servers are concerned,as for YouTubers, if they’re doing it for the money then maybe they should reconsider careers.

I wouldn’t pay a sub but I’m ok to watch adverts. YouTube is NOT a free service that has to be provided.

What makes you think you can tell a private company what they can and can’t do? they provided you with a service, you get to choose whether you want to use it or not. Half of you sound like spoiled little shites.

  13. They provided me with nothing, they bought an already established company. I personally can’t, but that private company has to do what it’s customers will like. Because without it’s customers it won’t exist.

  14. I didn’t try to get anything on youtube, I upload whatever I want and get enough views on my content to feel satisfied with myself. It’s a hobby, not a job, and I don’t want to make money from it. It’s funny how your assumptions about me are as wrong as they can get.
Yeah, there are ads on TV, that’s why I don’t watch TV. As far as I know cable TV is not free, so why are there ads there at all?
Who’s whining? “A lot of people have adblock turned on, I can’t make enough money from my youtube videos, I have to get a real job and actually work, OH NO…” – that’s not me, buddy. 🙂

  15. I Never See adverts anyway, I use an Ad blocker on Chrome….. or am I missing something here? Why pay a subscription when the plugin is free… or don’t people know about this? #Puzzled

    I agree with him

  18. See, that’s the problem. Filming yourself wanking around isn’t “work”.

  19. I think there are many that no longer watch telly for that very reason… I dont watch live tv unless im forced to, i record a show if its on telly and then watch it after fast forward any tv adds.
I watch netflix that have no adverts and use a add blocker for YouTube, i remember when advertising on YouTube was a small thing that was there but didn’t really annoy anyone, then i started using add blocker because of certain news websites where adds took over and disturbed the reading of the news.
I then used a browser that didn’t have add blocker and went to YouTube and gosh am i happy i dont have to deal with that amount of adds normally.

Adds have taken a overhand and many are not happy, i know that u will say that i and others are taking money away from people trying to make money, i can only say that through i feel for them they need to find other ways to make money, i am not a guy that actually watch adverts or get attracted by them for me they have to opposite effect i cant stand the sugar coating and false claims they make neither can i understand why people actually can get attracted to buy things by watching them.

If i need something i look it up i dont need to be told what i need or are missing in my life. I watch youtube without any adds and im happy to do so if add blocker ever stops working on YouTube i shall stop using it unless they can make a very attractive offer for not watching with adverts.
I currently pay the £6-8 that netflix costs me for all their content but for the amount i use youtube i am not willing to pay anything near that for YouTube. If they request that then I am no longer going to use it and whom that is a loss for is another argument too long for here..
