Cyanogen OS 12 has hit the OnePlus One

OnePlus One owners will start receiving a substantial software update today as the Cyanogen OS 12 update has begun rolling out, bringing with it Android Lollipop features and design elements. Cyanogen OS 12 has been in the making for quite some time.

The update is already rolling out to OnePlus One owners. The device did ship with Cyanogen OS installed but OnePlus and Cyanogen recently had a falling out, so don't expect the OnePlus Two to feature Cyanogen's own software. Instead, the OnePlus Two will move on to Oxygen OS.

CM12

Cyanogen OS 12 implements Google's new material design, which debuted with Android Lollipop late last year. Cyanogen OS 12 also brings a new email app, which is powered by Boxer, allowing for multiple account integration and quick reply responses.

As you would expect from a Cyanogen OS device, basically everything can be customized to your own liking. Those using the OnePlus One should be receiving their update notifications already.

KitGuru Says: This might be one of the last significant updates OnePlus owners get as starting with the OnePlus Two, the company will be moving on to its own-made Oxygen OS.

  1. One good thing that came out of this late update is the tap to wake bug fix. it wasn’t broken until the last Kitkat update where they pushed Swifty key and a new Maxx Audio app. That update broke the tap to wake function making it unresponsive at times. Now with CM12S it’s back to what it used to be.

I have to wait a few more days to know if battery life has improved with CM12S. Ever since the last few updates after 33R kitkat the battery life has not been as good on the OPO.

As for OxygenOS vs CM12S it’s CM12S hands down, most of the features found in the kitkat versions of CM11 have been retained in CM12S. OxygenOS has no custom camera app and everything else in the customization dept is sorely lacking, no tap to wake, tap to sleep for starters.
