Star Wars Battlefront will be a multiplayer only game

Star Wars Battlefront finally has its first cinematic trailer and the first details about the game are officially available. Aside from the fact that the game will feature hero characters, including Darth Vader and Boba Fett, we now know that the game won't feature a dedicated single-player campaign mode.

DICE is in charge of bringing the Battlefront series back to life later this year and while a dedicated story mode won't be around, there will be some short co-op missions available to play with friends both online and offline. Split screen will also be available for local co-op, just like on the previous games in the series.

Speaking with IGN, Battlefront producer Patrick Bach said: “The game is first and foremost a multiplayer game. The original Battlefront was a multiplayer game. That's the game we wanted to create–to recreate the battles of the Original Trilogy.”

We are currently expecting to see more of Star Wars Battlefront at E3 this year as so far, we haven't seen any official gameplay. The game will release on the 17th of November for the PC, Xbox One and PS4. Those who subscribe to EA Access on the Xbox One will be able to play the game a little earlier.

KitGuru Says: Star Wars Battlefront is going to be one of the biggest game launches this year and given that it is a Star Wars game, it is likely going to sell quite well. However, games like Titanfall have tried to take the multiplayer only approach and have not succeeded. Do you guys DICE has made the right call by making Battlefront a multiplayer title? Would you like to see a dedicated campaign?

  1. I’m gonna sit back and laugh at all the people who defend this decision but bitched like maniacs about Titanfall. =)

  2. Thats too bad, I was looking forward to a great story campaign. MP pretty much excludes a great story.

  3. Eh not sure how this is going to turn out for me now. I bought Titanfall for PC and played it less than 10 hours total. It’s not even installed on any of my computers right now. Local Co-op seems like a good thing. Personally I don’t get pulled into a game without a strong story provided by the game.

  4. Very foolish decision, it was the single player aspect of the game like story and galactic conquest the drove me to sink half my life on the previous Battlefront games, without them this has little hope of being the Star Wars experience I’ve waited almost 10 years for….

  5. From what I’ve seen so far, the reaction has been generally negative. I actually enjoyed Titanfall, but they had much more of an excuse: they were trying out something new and unique, and it didn’t quite work but they learned from it. DICE are just going for the cheaper option.

  6. How very sad, I was looking forward to this coming out. Oh well on the bright side I will have a few more ££ in the bank, I think i’ll spend them on a bottle of single malt to drown my sorrows.

  7. They don’t want to spend the money to put in full AI- That’s cheating us out of game content when AI itself is an important game content.

  8. Think McFly Think

This news is very disappointing to say the least.

  9. I haven’t played many hours of single player ever since getting ADSL, so this only makes me more interested, knowing that they had to focus on getting multiplayer right! 🙂

  10. R.I.P 501st

  11. i actually don’t care, as i never play the first story/campaign in any shooters, except Halo.. but i always went co-op…. when i used to play CoD, i never touched story mode lol. this means the focus is on one game type. it better be good.

  12. FFS, another game I won’t be buying then………Not everyone wants to play multiplayer, some of us prefer to work our way through a decent story as well as running around killing things :/

unless, of course you can play offline with bots then I will.

  13. I was going to order this, but now no. I do not like multiplayer games, so disappointing.

  14. If it will be olny mulyplayer i at least hope it will be like battlefield 2
MP maps in singleplayer with bots

  15. You suck Dice and EA…..MAKE IT A MULTIPLAYER AND A CAMPAIGN MODE…. WE ALL WANT A CAMPAIGN WITH A GOOD STORY!!! NEW DEVELPOERS SUCK IN MODERN DAYS…. TITANFALL SUCKED AS WELL AND I HAD THE COLLECTOR EDITON. IT WAS GARBABGE AND OVERPRICED ..MY PLASTIC STATUE CAME BROKEN AS WELL. EA YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO THE FANS AND MAKE A CAMPAIGN MODE ALONG WITH ALL FUTURE COLLECTOR EDITIONS SHOULD COME WITH THE STEEL BOOK CASE….. STOP BEING GREEDY AND ALLOWING AMAZON GERMANY TO BUY ALL THE STEEL BOOK RIGHTS. YOU SUCK EA!!!

  16. No single player = No buy. Another Titanfall?

  17. Only multiplayer = kill + getting killed + respawn (repeat) no fun!!. The story is what makes a game a game

  18. The title is misleading, there will be single player just alot more focus on multiplayer and no campaign

  19. The other 2 were like that so most likely single player this time around will be as well.

  20. What…the…fuck?!
Honestly, this makes me more furious that I can possibly convey.
A game that looks this good. This high caliber. And this true to the Star Wars universe…and uh…no single player…

    What the FUCK EA?!

As lamented by others…why do I want to get mowed down, respawned and repeated over and over again?
This takes all the wind out of my sails and was literally the whole reason for me purchasing a new console system. Now…honestly what’s the point??? I read that this has been Wildly lucrative for EA because of their success with Destiny?! Well woopty fuck! What about US?! The consumer?!
Give us what we want and we will buy it. But kick us in the ball sack like you’re doing with Battlefront and I will never buy another EA game again.

    Sincerely,
    A pissed off individual.
