A web-site has published excerpts from an alleged AMD presentation that describes the company’s upcoming Radeon R9 390X graphics card. As expected, the new top-of-the-range graphics from Advanced Micro Devices will feature unprecedented performance thanks to massive amount of compute horsepower and high-bandwidth memory.
The slides from an AMD presentation for its partners, which were published by Videocardz web-site, reveal a number of previously unknown details about the Radeon R9 390X. As expected, the code-named Fiji XT graphics processing unit has 4096 stream processor and 4096-bit HBM memory bus. However, unlike previously suggested, the graphics card carries 8GB of memory, not 4GB of HBM DRAM.
The forthcoming Radeon R9 390X GPU will feature improved GCN 1.3 architecture with full DirectX 12 implementation. According to AMD, the new chip will support new dual-GPU modes as well as specialized render modes for VR gaming. The processor will also support new H.265/HEVC decoder.
In a bid to install 8GB of memory, AMD used multi-layer 1GB chips from SK Hynix on dual-link interposer. Previously it was believed that AMD would only equip its new graphics card with 4GB of memory. Peak memory bandwidth of the Radeon R9 390X will be 640GB/s.
The Radeon R9 390X will have peak compute performance of 8.6TFLOPS, which is even higher than that of the GeForce GTX Titan X.
In addition to traditional version, AMD plans to introduce Radeon R9 390X WCE [water-cooled edition] with improved performance that will be designed specifically for enthusiasts. The typical version of the R9 390X will require one 6-pin and one 8-pin auxiliary PCIe power connectors, whereas the WCE will use two 8-pin connectors to deliver more power to the graphics adapter and improve its overclocking potential. It is unclear whether AMD plans to release Radeon R9 390 in addition to the R9 390X and the R9 390X WCE.
According to AMD’s own performance estimates, the Radeon R9 390X will be 55 – 65 per cent faster than the Radeon R9 290X.

IF these are true, and like with any leak, etc. you must take them with a grain of salt. However, IF these numbers are correct…

that’s the memory bus width (VRAM to GPU), not the PCIe bus width (graphics card to system)
and it’ll be $400 when the next round of NV cards come out in a year anyway 😛

exactly. it’s not gonna be a crippled r9 390x/390. it might be even overclocked, as they did with 295×2 XD
The last graphic/chart is so funny. The difference between values is so deceptively huge: 1 to 1.6 starting on 0.8. Its becoming a habit…
R9 395X2 is going to be swell if they can nail the R9 390/X 🙂 Bring the R9 390x!

Seing as how the 390X will be reference watercooled this time, i think they’ll just set the reference clocks and call it their flagship. Unless they bin Fiji for more than just functional units, like efficiency, in which case they’ll prolly build the 395×2 (and maybe 8GB 390X WCE) with the crème de la crème dies.

What… That’s not deceptive at all. It’s saying that in terms of overall performance, the 390x is around 60% better than the 290x. You don’t seriously think that it is an FPS graph, do you?
Nothing deceptive in that graph. The numbers are there, the info is conveyed. That’s marketing in today’s world. It is only deceptive for those who don’t pay attention. But i see its not your case.
These “leaks” can’t all be correct, so which one do you choose to believe?
As long as you read the info, you get accurate information, but I see your point. Had they started that graph at zero, you wouldn’t see as big of a visual difference.
I already have a R9 295X2 on my Rampage V Extreme, which I got for Christmas, so I won’t be ditching that for a long time (it can run GTA V @ 60fps Ultra settings on 2160p resolution!!!).

I worked some overtime and saved money here and there. Coincidentally, I cut back on drinking and smoking. Major money saver there.
You drink and smoke alot then, and im from europe the paycheck here isn’t so good as it seems…

Why anyone would ever want to put water inside their computers I don’t know. I’d never risk it even with the highest quality cooling. Water and expensive computer components do not mix, ever. All it takes is one tiny little leak and kaboom up goes your computer in a mushroom cloud, laying waste within a 500 miles radius in a nuclear apocalypse, total annihilation of the human race. Exaggerated a tiny bit there but you get what I mean. I’ll stick to air cooling edition.
I want to see if Sapphire does a Toxic air-cooled version.
