Rumor has it that Crytek has just entered a huge licensing deal with Amazon, worth between $50 million and $70 million. The developer, which recently faced some financial struggles, will now be kept afloat for quite some time, according to several anonymous sources speaking with Kotaku.
Crytek did say last year that it had come in to a decent chunk of funding that would power it on a long-term basis. At the time, we didn't know where this money came from but now it looks likely that Amazon and Crytek made this deal quite some time ago.
We don't know exactly what Crytek is working on for Amazon, the company may be looking to make use of the powerful CryEngine for its own titles. However, the Kotaku report does suggest that Amazon is using the developer to create its very own game engine.
Amazon has become interested in game development over the last year. In 2014, the retailer bought the studio behind Killer Instinct. Additionally, Frontier, the studio behind Elite: Dangerous, is working onΒ an exclusive game for Amazon, along with WayFarward, the studio behind BloodRayne.
Novel writer, Eric Nylund, has also been brought on-board Amazon's all new games team. Nylund was behind a lot of the lore for Halo and Gears of War. Amazon has yet to announce its own games streaming service or game console device but it is obviously planning something.
Amazon and Crytek have yet to confirm these reports.

KitGuru Says: Over the past year, Amazon has really expanded on its games team, recruiting studios and individual writers alike to all work on projects for a currently unannounced console or streaming service. It will be interesting to see what Amazon comes out with now that it has such a talented workforce behind it.
Many new players trying to get a piece of the gaming pie. Good looking 3D engine alone wont cut it. Offline single player games need to have engaging story lines and memorable characters first more than anything else. If it’s multiplayer then it needs great game modes and gameplay variations.
Agreed, I still don’t understand why Battlefield Hardline didn’t have a co-op single player. The single player story was pretty much made for it. Missed a massive trick there. It’s always great to have beautiful worlds but if there isn’t much to do then it’s as boring as going for a walk in an actual park π
You actually bought hard line? I cant pay full price for it given the whole thing being a little more than a re-skinned BF4 game. Hows the single player campaign?
Am sticking with BF3, waiting on BF5 or whatever they will call it. I think I am a bit too late for the BF4 bandwagon, took them a long while to make the bugs go away and improve some of the netcode issues. I don’t know, might just go CS:GO for fun.

Has anyone even thought about Star Citizen? They are using Crytek engine, in the last few articles they mentioned. They are going to move to a CLOUD based engineering solution to for their massive ambitions? I know it sounds like they are making a “new” amazon only game, but I believe there are a few hints and pointers to a possible Star Citizen / amazon pairing. Which also is using CRYtek. Lets hope and see. I would hate to see Crytek have issues. their engine is one of the best ever. I understand it makes most computers Cry. Thus CRY tek. But I always measured my computers built around if they can max out CRYSIS! for quite sometime..
Was there a reference to cloud imperium in there? ;P
I dont think star citizen will have anything to do with Amazon. Judging from their team and funds, they are more than fine just as they are, so they would rather stay 100% independent; if not for them, for their fans.
It’s pretty good, although the SP has always been good with the Battlefield games. But I can’t believe they didn’t include a co-op man. I am playing it on the xbox one at the moment. Used to be a PC only guy for those fps games. Battlefield Bad Company 2 and the Vietnam expansion being my favourite of nearly all time I reckon haha. I know man, the cost of them is sickening plus the graphics on the xbox one aren’t as good as I expected for next gen. No improvement on a slightly out of date PC running BF3 or 4 or something lol. Luckily I’m game sharing with my mate so we have halfed our costs on games. He got GTA V for us n I bought the Hardline lol!
Dont forget the SP campaign has a locked FOV of 60….so sad for a pc title …
Yeah BFC2 FTW
