Xbox confirms plans to appear at The Game Awards with new announcements

While Xbox's first-party studios don't have any games in the running for GOTY at this year's edition of The Game Awards, the company does have a few nominees in other categories, with Starfield, Hi-Fi Rush and Forza Motorsport in the running for a few categories. Now, Microsoft has publicly revealed plans to make new announcements at the event next week.

Outside of Starfield, Hi-Fi Rush and Forza, Microsoft hasn't had a particularly busy year for first-party releases. However, Xbox still made plenty of headlines thanks to all the hoops it had to jump through to close its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Microsoft has high hopes for the future though, with a ton of big exclusives in the works for the years ahead.

Microsoft has used The Game Awards as a venue for a few announcements in recent years. The Xbox Series X console was first announced at the show, and the TGAs were also utilised to showcase our first look at Hellblade 2, one of Microsoft's most highly anticipated upcoming exclusives.

The Xbox team will continue this trend at The Game Awards 2023, sending out an email teasing “important announcements and other Xbox news” during the event. The Game Awards is set to kick off on the 7th of December in the US, but it doesn't kick off until after midnight on the 8th of December for those of us in the UK.

KitGuru Says: I'm not expecting too many big reveals here as The Game Awards is a show that focuses on the wider industry at large, with new trailers and announcements from many different publishers and studios. However, it would be nice to get one or two new game announcements, or new looks at previously announced titles like Hellblade 2 or Obsidian's fantasy RPG, Avowed.
