Halo 3: ODST has been added to the Master Chief Collection

Earlier this week, an Xbox Store listing seemingly leaked the release date of the upcoming expansion to the Master Chief Collection, Halo 3: ODST. Developer 343 Industries was quick to squash rumors by claiming that the Friday 29th of May release date was just a placeholder.

True enough, Halo 3: ODST did not release on Friday. However, it did launch today, just one day later on the 30th of May. Those who bought the Master Chief Collection early on (before the 19th of December) will have their game updated with ODST for free due to the game's early development struggles.

Don't expect the expansion to look too different to its original though. While the original Halo and Halo 2 were remastered for the Xbox One release, Halo 3 and Halo 4 were merely updated to run at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second, rather than receiving the full overhaul treatment.

Those who aren't eligible to get the add-on for free will be able to purchase it soon through the Xbox Games Store for $4.99. An exact release date was not announced, nor was a UK specific price, however, it will likely be priced at £3.99.

If you have never played through ODST before, then you should know that it is a prequel to the events of Halo 3, following the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers as they search for the rest of their squad. The update comes in at 8.1GB so depending on your connection, it could take a little while to download and install.

KitGuru Says: The Master Chief Collection should be playable by now so it may be worth revisiting if you were a fan of this expansion. I skipped ODST back in the 360 days so I may finally get around to checking it out.

ODST was an amazing game despite what many say. It had a really good mood to it, looked amazing and it was interesting to play in that universe at the perspective of a normal soldier as opposed to a 7foot exo armoured super soldier. I may well have to go back to it

  3. Bought this for my stepson in September, to go with his XBO for Christmas, so naturally he’s 6 days away from getting this update, even though it was bought long before then!
